THE VOICE OF GRADUATE WOMEN IN WA

Graduate Women (WA) Inc is the voice of graduate women working for human rights, peace, the environment, education and advancement of the status of woman.

Why join Graduate Women (WA)?

The Australian Federation of Graduate Women has a Respected Voice
AFGW is an organisation with a respected voice at state, national and international levels. It contributes to many debates related to quality of life and education for women of all ages. For example, in 1998 Graduate Women (WA) organised a national conference on Indigenous education at the tertiary level and resolutions adopted will inform public and private bodies concerned with the academic success of Indigenous university students.

The Australian Federation of Graduate Women contributes to International Debates
AFGW members are members of the International Federation of University Women (IFUW) which has representation as a non-government organisation (NGO) on a number of United Nation's bodies. IFUW holds an international conference of its 78 National Federations and Associations (NFAs) from around the world every three years. Resolutions from the 2007 Conference in Manchester, England covered; women in leadership, establishment of a high-level agency for women at UN; religious beliefs and women's health; commitment to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals(MDGs); women's role in disease prevention; environmental and peace issues; cultural diversity within AFGW/IFUW; working group on the girl child. NFAs provide a wide range of educational, humanitarian and cultural activities that approach international problems from the perspective of their respective countries.

Financial assistance for women's education
At the state and territory level AFGW helps women undertaking postgraduate studies by providing bursaries. Graduate Women (WA) provides five annual bursaries, provides a scholarship to a student resident of St Catherine's College and gives two grants to enable high school women students to attend the Science Summer School at Murdoch University.

Your contribution
Involvement with Graduate Women (WA) provides many opportunities to network and share knowledge, lobby government and support the advancement of women. We recognise that women have many demands on their time and may be reluctant to join organisations in which they cannot always be active. If you cannot be active at this time, consider joining Graduate Women (WA) to support our objectives and participate whenever you are able.
