History
The ASRS was formed in 1974 by a group of concerned members of the Albany boating fraternity, one of the first dedicated Sea Search & Rescue groups in the state, and was incorporated in 1976.
Since then the squad has grown to be one of the largest volunteer sea search rescue groups in country W.A, with nearly 400 general members, and a core of highly active members.
Location
The squad headquarters and main base is situated adjacent to the marina and fishing boat harbor at Emu Point at the entrance to picturesque Oyster Harbor.
This is an ideal position for the launching and control of rescue operations. This fact was recognized in 1997 when Albany Sea Rescue was designated a primary control center for major Sea Search & Rescue Operations in the Albany area.
