"The twos! We have to do the
twos!" cried Tim. "Oh dear! Oh help!" "That's easy!" Tam said. "Look,
we can do the twos! And off he went: "Two, four, six, eight, ten,
twelve, fourteen, sixteen, eighteen, twenty!" "Oh, all right then," said
Tim. "I can do that too. "Now it's easy," Tam told him.
"They're all even numbers!"
"Oh, right. I see," agreed
Tim. "And that's not all. Times two is just the same as doubling." "That's right," Tam said. "I'll go first," Tim said.
"I'll say my two times table up to five." "And I'll do all the rest,"
cried Tam. So off they went: "Hmm," said Tim. "You need
to be sure, you know." "Oh yes, I'm sure. Nine twos
are eighteen! I'll remember that!" "We should count by twos again." You can count with them this
time. Here are the numerals: 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16,
18, 20! Tim and Tam wrote out the Two
Times Table. Here it is: 1 x 2 = 2 "Heh! Look at the pattern!"
cried Tim. "2, 4, 6, 8, 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 0!"
"That's clever! Anything times
2 has to end with an even number or a zero. I can remember that easily!" Count by twos again. Then you can try these. Be
careful because they are all jumbled up. "Hey, look at this," cried
Tim. "Look what I've done. I did the Two Times Table again but I put the numbers
around the other way." "Oh, yeah," said Tam. "They're
just the same. So we didn't learn just the twos, we learnt some of the other
tables as well. That's going to save us time when we have to do the others.
Clever!"
"Doing the two times is just
the same as doubling," Tim told him. "Can you double, um, let me
think - 21?" "That's 42! What about two
times thirty four?" "Um, sixty eight!" Here are some fun numbers for
you to multiply by two. Remember, it's just the same
as doubling. Some are in words and some
are in numerals.
First of all we need to count by twos. Listen to me!"
Two, four, six, eight, ten, twelve, fourteen, sixteen, eighteen, twenty!"
"One lot of two is two,
two twos are four,
three twos are six,
four twos are eight
and five twos make ten!"
"Six twos are twelve,
seven twos are fourteen,
eight twos make sixteen,
nine twos are - um - eighteen,
and ten twos are twenty!"
2 x 2 = 4
3 x 2 = 6
4 x 2 = 8
5 x 2 = 10
6 x 2 = 12
7 x 2 = 14
8 x 2 = 16
9 x 2 = 18
10 x 2 = 20
