WEEK ONE

This week you will be writing about yourself. Write it as if you are introducing yourself to your teacher or to a new friend.

Remember, only write information you want other people to see and know. These are the sentence beginnings for the week.

Like the first week, this week you are writing again about yourself. This time it's about things you do, or like, or want.

When we write using I and me (and We and us) it is called writing in the first person. Diaries are written in the first person.

WEEK EIGHT

This week use the word and every day. Remember you should only use 'and' ONCE in a sentence.

An easy way to do this properly is to think of two small sentences that can go together and join them up with 'and'

Here is an example to help you: My cat scratched the dog on his nose. The dog started to howl. My cat scratched the dog on his nose and the dog started to howl.

The first one is started for you.

Important Notice: Something to remember to do. For Week 35 you will need to collect five cartoon strips from the same series - Snake Tales, Calvin & Hobbes, Garfield, etc - to write a serial for. That is in FOUR weeks' time. Start collecting them now, so you do not forget.

WEEK THIRTY TWO

This week make your journal a real diary about events that have happened to you. Start each sentence any way you wish - but remember to use a capital letter!

REMEMBER to collect the cartoons for Week 35

WEEK THIRTY THREE

These words are all made by putting two smaller words together. They are called Compound Words.

WEEK THIRTY FOUR

All of these words can be said or pronounced in two ways. They have different meanings when they are said differently.

Say each one quietly to yourself, both ways. Use as many of them as you can in this week's journal.

If you can think of two more, check with an adult and then add them to the list, where there are two empty spaces.

REMEMBER to collect the cartoons for Week 35

WEEK THIRTY FIVE

This week use the cartoons you collected recently and write each day about one of them. They might form a story, but this is not always what happens. IF you forgot to collect cartoons, you will need to share with someone else who did NOT forget!

WEEK THIRTY SIX

When we write about events that have happened we use words like saw, went, observed, looked, listened, drove, rode, went, etc. This is called the Past Tense.

When you write your journal for this week, make sure you use the Past Tense, and write all the verb words in colour. Don't forget little words like was, were, had, did, etc are also verbs.

Here are some Past Tense verbs for you if you cannot think of any yourself.

WEEK THIRTY EIGHT

Look at the spelling lists you have worked on this term. Find some of the words that gave you the most trouble to learn. Use at least one of them every day. Write about something that is going to happen, but which hasn't happened yet. We call this the Future Tense.

WEEK THIRTY NINE

You have almost finished the school year. Each day this week, write about something you have have done at school that was interesting. Try to write a little more than usual. Remember to use capital letters wherever they are necessary, and full stops at the end of each sentence. Don't make the sentences too long. It's better to write three or four short sentences properly than a whole lot without any proper punctuation. (It is also much easier for other people to read that way!)
