The South Keeling Islands haven't a huge amount of wildlife as the clearing for the growing of coconuts has seen most of the bird life go off island and now the large colonies of seabirds are on North Keeling Island.
However there are many varieties of land crabs and indeed large numbers of them. Turtles are very common in the waters of the lagoon as are Manta Rays, sharks and any number of fish. The lagoon seabed is covered with corals of many varieties which flourish in the calmer, warmer waters.
