Manufacturer, do herebydedlare the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement : -

This invention comprises improvements in the methods of packing or putting up knitting needles and the like for -the market, and has for its object to provide simple and easily produced metal dipping or retaining portions for the pins, needles or the like, so that they may be retained in sets of two's, four's or similar numbers in a flat condition convenient for packing and without the risk of breakage of the packets occurring as is experienced with the paper bands or packets hitherto used.

In accordance with the invention we provide a metal cap portion for receiving the points of the pins and preferably used in conjunction with it a metal band near the other ends of the pins for retaining them in a flat group. The cap and the band may be conveniently pressed or folded from a sheet metal blank and may have a locking tongue and recessed portions.

We have appended hereunto a sheet of drawings illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention.

Figure 1 shows a set of four pins with' the metal cap and securing band in position thereon.

(Figure 2 is a view of a convenient blank of sheet metal from which the cap may be made.

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the cap when complete.

Figure 4 is a plan of a blank of which the band may be made.

Figure 5 is a perspective view showing the band in folded position. In this example the blank a (Figure 2) is stamped with dovetai'led like notches b at one edge and correspondingly. shaped projecting tongues c on the other edge, and at the bottom edge with an extension pieced.

The extension piece d is folded up into the position shown in dotted lines at Figure 3, while the sides of the blank are .folded inwardly and thetongue inter- -locked in recesses b to form the cap or container shown at Figure 3. This cap or container is of a size to fit snugly on the ends of the pins according to the number it is desired to be put up in one packet or set, and the size will be arranged to suit the gauge of the pins.

At the other end a similar cap may be used if desired, but I prefer to use the hand e formed from a blank arranged as shown at Figure 4 having a tongue f and notch g. This blank is folded as clearly shown at Figure 5, and it will be understood that for the band also, dovetailedlike projections and notches may be emp'loyed if desired. in 1920.      Her married name was Shaw. Joan Mary Lilley married Raymond Herbert Shaw, son of George Frederic Shaw and Ethel Everatt Cowling. Joan Mary Lilley was born on 7 February 1920 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.¹ She was the daughter of Harry Norman Lilley and Rosannah Ellen Haden.

     Theodore Edwin Lilley was born in 1850 at Inkberrow, Worcs. He was the son of Edwin Lilley and Susannah Mole. Theodore Edwin Lilley witnessed the Census 1851 of Edwin Lilley and Susannah Lilley on 30 March 1851 at Studley, Warks.¹ Theodore Edwin Lilley was needle eyer in 1861. He married Fanny Crow, daughter of William Crow and Harriet Sanders, on 2 October 1869 at St Phillips Cathedral, Birmingham, Warks.^2,3 Theodore Edwin Lilley was needle filer in 1871. He and Susannah Mole were Census 1871 in 1871 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs. Theodore Edwin Lilley was needle filer in 1881. He and Fanny Lilley were Census 1881 on 3 April 1881 at Manor Street, Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.⁴ Theodore Edwin Lilley was Census 1891 on 5 April 1891 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs. He was needle eyer in 1901. He was Census 1901 on 31 March 1901 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs. He died in September 1910 at Alcester, Worcs.⁵

      Fanny Crow was also known as Frances. She was born in 1849 at Solihull, Worcs. She was the daughter of William Crow and Harriet Sanders. Fanny Crow married Theodore Edwin Lilley, son of Edwin Lilley and Susannah Mole, on 2 October 1869 at St Phillips Cathedral, Birmingham, Warks.^1,2 As of 2 October 1869,her married name was Lilley.^3,4 Fanny Lilley and Theodore Edwin Lilley were Census 1881 on 3 April 1881 at Manor Street, Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.⁵

      Edwin Lilley was also known as Lilly before 1821. He was born in 1818 at Feckenham, Worcs; Lambourn Warks 1861 census or Astwood Bank Worcs 1881 census.² He was baptized on 6 February 1821 at Wesleyan Methodist, Redditch, Worcs; son of George and Sarah.³ He was needlemaker in 1838. He married Susannah Mole, daughter of Edward Mole and Mary Ann Holmes, on 27 December 1838 at St Peter, Ipsley, Warks; Edwin underage Father George Lilly needlemaker and Susannah of age father Edward Mole needlemaker Witness Charles Murrall Betsy Mole.^4,5,6,7 Edwin Lilley and Susannah Lilley were Census 1841 William 7 months old on 7 June 1841 at Crabs Cross, Ipsley, Warks.⁸ Edwin Lilley was needle maker in 1851. He and Susannah Lilley were Census 1851 on 30 March 1851 at Studley, Warks.⁹ Edwin Lilley was needle stamper in 1861. He was Census 1861 in 1861 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs. He and Susannah Mole were Census 1871 on 2 April 1871 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.¹⁰ Edwin Lilley was small needle maker in 1881. He was Census 1881 on 3 April 1881 at Evesham Road, Astwood Bank, Feckenham, Worcs. He died in December 1885 at Alcester, Worcs, at age 64.¹¹

     Susannah Mole was born in 1817 at Ipsley, Worcs; 1871 census gives Headless Cross, Ipsleynear Redditch.¹ She was the daughter of Edward Mole and Mary Ann Holmes. Susannah Mole was baptized on 6 February 1817 at Redditch, Worcs; dau of Edward and Mary Ann.² She married Edwin Lilley on 27 December 1838 at St Peter, Ipsley, Warks; Edwin underage Father George Lilly needlemaker and Susannah of age father Edward Mole needlemaker Witness Charles Murrall Betsy Mole.^3,4,5,6 As of 27 December 1838,her married name was Lilley.⁷ Susannah Lilley and Edwin Lilley were Census 1841 William 7 months old on 7 June 1841 at Crabs Cross, Ipsley, Warks.⁸ Susannah Lilley and Edwin Lilley were Census 1851 on 30 March 1851 at Studley, Warks.⁹ Susannah Mole was needle straightener in 1861. She and Theodore Edwin Lilley were Census 1871 in 1871 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs. Susannah Mole and Edwin Lilley were Census 1871 on 2 April 1871 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.¹⁰ Susannah Mole was small needle straightener in 1881. She died in December 1890 at Alcester, Worcs.¹¹

     Clara Ellen Lilley was born in 1852 at Redditch, Worcs. She was the daughter of Edwin Lilley and Susannah Mole.

     Rosa Ann Lilley was born in 1854 at Feckenham, Worcs. She was the daughter of Edwin Lilley and Susannah Mole. Rosa Ann Lilley witnessed the Census 1871 of Edwin Lilley and Susannah Mole on 2 April 1871 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.¹

     Harvey Edward Lilley was born in December 1856 at Feckenham, Worcs.¹ He was the son of Edwin Lilley and Susannah Mole. Harvey Edward Lilley was Census 1861 scholar on 7 April 1861. He witnessed the Census 1871 of Edwin Lilley and Susannah Mole on 2 April 1871 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.² Harvey Edward Lilley was small needle maker in 1881. He married Elizabeth Charlotte Gagen in March 1889 at Kings Norton, Worcs.³ Harvey Edward Lilley was Machine needle maker in 1891. He was Census 1891 on 5 April 1891 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.⁴

     Hugh Henry Vincent Lilley was born in June 1860 at Feckenham, Worcs.¹ He was the son of Edwin Lilley and Susannah Mole. Hugh Henry Vincent Lilley witnessed the Census 1871 of Edwin Lilley and Susannah Mole on 2 April 1871 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.²

     Edgar Lionel Lilley was born in June 1872 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.¹ He was the son of Theodore Edwin Lilley and Fanny Crow. Edgar Lionel Lilley witnessed the Census 1881 of Theodore Edwin Lilley and Fanny Lilley on 3 April 1881 at Manor Street, Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.² Edgar Lionel Lilley was warehouseman in 1891. He married Elizabeth Pitts, daughter of Cornelius Pitts and (?) Elizabeth, in September 1893 at Bromsgrove, Worcs.³ Edgar Lionel Lilley was Foreman fishing hook manufacturer in 1901. He was Census 1901 RG13/2803 fol9p10 on 31 March 1901 at 6 Melen St, Redditch, Worcs.⁴

     Sydney Holmes Lilley was born in September 1874 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs; Alcester 6d 604.¹ He was the son of Theodore Edwin Lilley and Fanny Crow. Sydney Holmes Lilley witnessed the Census 1881 of Theodore Edwin Lilley and Fanny Lilley on 3 April 1881 at Manor Street, Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.² Sydney Holmes Lilley died in June 1890 at Alcester, Worcs, at age 15; Alcester 6d 361 age 15.³

     Alfred Reginald Lilley Married Bromsgrove 6c 636 Sept 1908 to Ada mary Griffen POSSIBLY. He was born in December 1878 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.¹ He was the son of Theodore Edwin Lilley and Fanny Crow. Alfred Reginald Lilley witnessed the Census 1881 of Theodore Edwin Lilley and Fanny Lilley on 3 April 1881 at Manor Street, Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.² Alfred Reginald Lilley appeared on the census of 1891; scholar. He was Fishing tackle warehouseman in 1901.

     Maud Marion Lilley was born in March 1881 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.¹ She was the daughter of Theodore Edwin Lilley and Fanny Crow. Maud Marion Lilley witnessed the Census 1881 of Theodore Edwin Lilley and Fanny Lilley on 3 April 1881 at Manor Street, Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.² Maud Marion Lilley appeared on the census of 1891; scholar. She was Fishook fly dresser in 1901.

     Oscar Theodore Lilley was born in September 1885 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.¹ He was the son of Theodore Edwin Lilley and Fanny Crow. Oscar Theodore Lilley was needle name stamper in 1901. He died in March 1902 at Alcester, Worcs, at age 16; Alcester 6d 440 age 16.²

     Grace Lilley was born in September 1887 at Astwood, Feckenham, Worcs.¹ She was the daughter of Theodore Edwin Lilley and Fanny Crow. Grace Lilley was needle eyer in 1901. As of September 1912,her married name was Biggs. She married Arthur Biggs, son of Walter Biggs and Ann Elizabeth Prescott, in September 1912; Alcester 6d 1470.

     Edward Mole married Mary Ann Holmes, daughter of Edward Holmes, on 14 November 1814 at Claines, Worcs.¹ As of 1838, Edward Mole lived at Crabs Cross, Ipsley, Warks. He was needlemaker on dau's marriage cert in 1838.

     Mary Ann Holmes was the daughter of Edward Holmes. Mary Ann Holmes married Edward Mole on 14 November 1814 at Claines, Worcs.¹ As of 14 November 1814,her married name was Mole.¹

     Elizabeth Charlotte Gagen was born in March 1857 at Terrington, Norfolk.¹ She married Harvey Edward Lilley, son of Edwin Lilley and Susannah Mole, in March 1889 at Kings Norton, Worcs.² As of March 1889,her married name was Lilley.²

     Elizabeth Pitts was born in 1872 at Redditch, Worcs.¹ She was the daughter of Cornelius Pitts and (?) Elizabeth. Elizabeth Pitts married Edgar Lionel Lilley, son of Theodore Edwin Lilley and Fanny Crow, in September 1893 at Bromsgrove, Worcs.² As of September 1893,her married name was Lilley.²

     Bessie Lilley was born in 1895 at Redditch, Worcs. She was the daughter of Edgar Lionel Lilley and Elizabeth Pitts.

     Cornelius Pitts married (?) Elizabeth. Cornelius Pitts was born in 1836 at Redditch, Worcs. He appeared on the census of 1891 at Redditch, Worcs.¹

     George Harris was born in 1890 at Redditch, Worcs. He was the son of Alfred Harris and Selina Pitts.

     Arthur Biggs was born in 1888 at Redditch, Worcs. He was the son of Walter Biggs and Ann Elizabeth Prescott. Arthur Biggs married Grace Lilley, daughter of Theodore Edwin Lilley and Fanny Crow, in September 1912; Alcester 6d 1470.

     Walter Biggs was born in 1844 at Long Crendon, Bucks. He married Ann Elizabeth Prescott in December 1865 at Bromsgrove, Worcs.¹
