I am often asked to book a wedding MONTHS ahead of the required day, so please BOOK EARLY to avoid disappointment.

You will need to make two appointments.

The first appointment takes approximately 1 hour, and is when you complete all official documents, discuss your wedding ceremony and pay the required deposit.

THE CEREMONY

At this first appointment, you may borrow a file of sample introductory paragraphs, vows, readings and complete ceremonies for up to four weeks to help you create your own individual wedding ceremony. OR, if you are living in an area not close to Perth, (i.e. in a distant country area of Western Australia, or perhaps interstate or overseas), once I receive your Notice of Intended Marriage form, and your deposit, I can send you an email package which consists of several complete ceremonies + "extra choices" from which you may select and use in your own ceremony. If you wish, you can choose to provide music for your wedding ceremony. You may like to consider a singer, musician, compact disc or tape recorded music to add that special ambience to your ceremony. The wedding ceremony itself usually takes between 20 and 30 minutes from the Bride's arrival time to the presentation of the Bridal Certificate and the guests' congratulations to the Bride and Bridegroom - but the ceremony length depends upon what is chosen or written for inclusion by each couple. The choice of venues for civil weddings is endless! You can choose a park, garden, home, hall, restaurant, river reserve, beach, boat or function centre. The choice is yours entirely!

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

In accordance with the Australian Marriage Act, "The Notice of Intended Marriage" form must be completed and lodged at least ONE CALENDAR MONTH prior to the marriage taking place, BUT NO EARLIER THAN EIGHTEEN MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING DATE. As a requirement of law, you must provide the necessary personal documents to your celebrant - usually on the first appointment. These documents are as follows: For persons born in Australia. this will mean a Certified (Original) Birth Certificate or Extract of Birth, and for an overseas-born person either a BIRTH CERTIFICATE or a CURRENT PASSPORT (from the country of birth) is required. Please note that these are the ONLY DOCUMENTS WHICH ARE ABLE TO BE ACCEPTED. If either party has been previously married, you MUST BRING DOCUMENTS TO ESTABLISH YOUR ELIGIBILITY FOR MARRIAGE, such as a Death Certificate or a Divorce Decree Absolute - which show that you are legally free to marry. If either party has changed their name by License or Deed Poll, the official CHANGE OF NAME DOCUMENT must also be provided. Note: If an overseas-born person's documents are written in a language OTHER THAN ENGLISH, these must be accompanied by AN OFFICIAL TRANSLATION INTO THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. The legal age for marriage in Australia is 18 years of age. Marriage of persons who have attained the age of 16 years but are under 18 require a Magistrate's order as well as parental consent. Please be aware, however, that the law states that a marriage cannot take place if BOTH parties are under the age of 18 years. You will need two people (known to you and who are over the legal age of 18) to act as Official Witnesses to your marriage.
