The Old Mill Theatre group wanted to revitalise their logo, having previously based their identity on clipart. Their request was to give recognition to the mill, whilst avoiding an illustrated windmill. They wanted to steer the new logo into a more modern direction.
After an initial explorative design phase, a geometric pattern of windmill blades reoccurred. Variations on size and number were attempted. There had been a suggestion about spotlights. Thus, this pattern became figurative of light and centre stage.
Asymmetrical scaling on the mill pattern and a gradient fill created the sense of depth. A slightly oversized 'O' helps lead the title.
See it on their promotional materials, including website, programmes, tv commercials, and tickets.
