Guild Wars: Nightfall - Beta review
OK so I finally gave in last night and played a little to check out the new Nightfall professions...
I didn't play the Paragon for all that long as I really didn't find it very interesting/enjoyable - the throwing spears sounded like a good idea, but it was really just like playing a warrior from a distance. Most of the skills I had were "party buff" type spells/shouts/etc - there was one cool skill that added burning whenever any ally used an attack skill.
"The Ranger/Paragon was basically unstoppable. He could use ranger stances and the paragons attacks, with a hint of poison to add some zest and zing to the slaughter."
~Farsight
The Dervish - which it seems most people didn't bother trying out - I found much more fun. Despite the initial feel of a hammer warrior, a much more interesting variety of spells accompanied the scythe - I especially liked the elite skill "Avatar of Melandru," which morphs into a ent-like creature, adding armour and 200 hp for couple minutes (although it takes an appropriately long time to recharge.)
According to a guild-mate, "Avatar of Grenth" (a similar morphing spell) causes you to do cold damage, and removes enchantments from your target.
In the arenas, while the paragon struggled to maintain a lead (winning only by one point), my dervish kicked some serious butt, winning 10 to 3. It will be interesting to see what else, like new explorable areas, they will introduce with the release of nightfall. I am decidedly more anticipating of it now than before I played the beta.
