Descendants of Hans Harder

Notes

Edith Margretta Elliot

Edith was born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland: migrated to Western Australia in 1929 to assist her father, Robert Elliot, who owned the Esplanade Hotel in Busselton, Western Australia. Tourism was in its infancy then, as we know it today, but Edith being a perfectionist, assisted in making this delightful hotel a much sought after holiday destination, overlooking the shores of Geographe Bay.

Edith Elliot and John Gustav Harders were married in 1943....and during the War Years, Edith worked in Moore's, that delightful big shop weremember in Hay & Murray Streets, Perth. After John Brooks Harders wasborn in 1949, Edith devoted her life to her "two johns". In the following 25 years travelled throughout Western Australia, mainly in the Wheatbelt region, supporting her husband in his work within the Bank ofNew South Wales. At times, some of these postings must of been difficult....especially the heat of summer, but in 1963 John was posted to her old, comfortable town of Busselton, where they eventually enjoyed their retirement.

Edith loved dancing....was a keen golfer.....in fact, Edith hit a hole-in-one while playing with Connie Brooks on the old busselton Golf Course, and brought home a Certificate to prove it. Also with her sharingnature she was involved with the St. John Ambulance.
