Book Week

Fremantle Children's Literature Centre

is visiting our school during August - Country Children's Book Week 2004

Last year, Literature Centre staff member, Kylie Powell presented Viewing Workshops, introducing three outstanding picture books and provided teachers and their students with a wonderful opportunity to experience the creation of these books from their first idea through to the finished product. This year Kylie will be returning with three new texts to be enjoyed by students from year 3 to year 10.

The Viewing workshops were centred around exhibitions of original art work and manuscripts from the books and aimed to :

#Encourage students to enjoy reading and creating

#Show that the process of making a book is one of evolving from the original concept through to the finished product.

#Show that each component of a picture book (text, illustration and design) relies on their interaction to tell a complete story.

#Show that the process of making a book is accessible to all

#Show that picture books are written for all ages, not just young children.

#Workshop some suggestions where authors and illustrators get their ideas from and to encourage students to begin a piece of creative work for themselves.
