Goddamn sadistic microbe
I hope this isn't going to become a habit.
My last entry was a no-holds-barred whinge about my pain levels blah blah blah (update on all that below), and now here I am again. All that crap, and now this goddamn sadistic microbe has snuck up on me, sometime overnight, somehow sneaking past all the carefully established and maintained cold and flu defenses, and now I've got the radioactive monster of all snotfests. I'm a mucus machine; sneezing and coughing and wheezing, I have a disgustingly sore throat and can barely talk or swallow, and since I can't breathe through my nose at night I'm snoring as well. I totally abjectly refuse to go to the doctor with it - it's just a cold for heaven's sake, so am making do on some cold/flu tablets, lots of strepsils and drinking litres and litres of water. Yecchhhh.

I'm still waiting on my papers coming back from the Immigration and Nationality Directorate (located in Croydon, of all places) - I sent my passport and wedding certificate and all other information shortly after our wedding, to get my spouse visa. As far as I can tell it's a straightforward procedure - we've been living together for six months, we got married in that time period, are still living together, so all systems are go - all that needs to be done is for the spouse visa to be glued into my current (Australian) passport and voila. Anyway I've been in contact with the IND and apparently the visa takes approximately 6-8 weeks to be processed, so it should be completed and back to me shortly. Whee! Then I can commence the job-hunting. I am so so ready to get back to work - for the £££ of course, which we could really do with, and also for the adult company/professional stimulation. To this end I've been jazzing up my c.v. and making lots of enquiries, and have found a couple of really good agencies who deal with the IT and Science industries. I'm not sure what to go for though - I really do not want to get into admin. work, though that would be a way of breaking myself in gently, get used to working here, see what the "work culture" is like, and not get stressed or try to "prove" myself as Ms. Wonderful. I think that attitude is quite sensible, don't you?
Then again ... I really do want a serious, good job, with good pay, where I can be Ms Wonderful. A conundrum, or a dilemma, or something. No doubt it will come down to what's available in the job market when I get those damn papers back. I don't want to take the first thing going though; anyway Sam won't let me. Sigh, such a drag having a bossy husband (hee! I love it that he has my best interests at heart and encourages me and my flabby self-confidence).

Vis a vis the main health situation: Things have calmed down a little but I'm still very sore and feeling exceedingly limp and fragile, as though I've been run over by a bus, so I'm taking it pretty easy still). I went to see my GP yesterday because I was feeling so desperate, and made Sam come with me (actually he was about to insist he come with me, he was so worried about me, bless him) to talk about everything, and how I'm feeling upset and stressed and down, which is Not Good, given how incredibly happy I am with Sam and all ...
Anyway my main purpose was to ask for referrals to a good rheumatologist and a pain counselling-management clinic. So the doctor said to leave it with her, she'd ask around to see who was good and most important, relevant and knowledgeable about my condition. Today - can you believe that, the very next day after my appointment! - the receptionist called to tell me they'd booked apptointments for me, which I thought was pretty amazing. So I have an appointment coming up at the pain clinic, and an appointment with one of the top rheumatologist consultants in several weeks' time. Hopefully something will come out of one or both of those ...
