Sick
We are so the fun couple right now. We're both horribly and yuckily and oozily ill. Me: pain pain pain, clagged up sinuses, pain pain pain (just as I'm trying to get crackin’ on the packin’). Tuxedo also has clagged up sinuses and a bad cold continuing (he gave it to me in the first place, the wee bastard); he's also had a vile gastrointestinal bug thingie which I fortunately didn’t get but has left him laid out flat for some days. Yep. We have been such the fun couple; dinners have tended to be of the grilled cheese and Chinese delivery variety. Mmm mmmm.

In other news, I’ve settled on a shipping company and got a quote – basically reasonable but still a bit more than we expected, but then the total cost will most likely come down a fair bit on The Day as I erred on the side of generosity when drawing up my list of items, and number of teachests and book cartons and all the rest. Plus they provide all packing materials (bubble wrap, poly-popcorn, reinforced cardboard stuff – this cost me a bomb last time) and they revise the price accordingly on the day. I'll be doing the "little" stuff - all the books, CDs, linen and clothes and ornaments and kitchen stuff and pictures and mirrors and stereos and the two zillion and three uncategorisable items. Then the packers will do all the big stuff (furniture etc) on the alloted day. Packing and associated activities (major culling, throwing out, giving away ... ) should start fairly soon – tomorrow I think, when the shipping company drops off all the teachests, book boxes and packing materials. Then the fun begins ... at least this time I won’t have (a) The Headmistress telling me to take this and this and THIS (whilst adding and switching around articles from my carefully culled pile to the To Be Shipped pile) and (b) The Little Professor won’t be unpacking and repacking and re-repacking boxes that I’d already done sufficiently neatly and efficiently! Seriously though, they were an amazing help at the time. I’ll be doing most of this lot pretty much on my own (what with Tuxedo at work) and it is undeniably easier not doing it by committee so to speak; . Having done it once a lot of the erm “mystique” has disappeared and I know lots of tricks and do’s and don’ts. I am the Packing Queen!
As for the settlement date – well after much wrangling the date for moving out has been changed from 14 February (aaaarrrrrgh!!!!) to 21 February. It still leaves us with a week-plus before I go, so who knows what we'll do about accommodation and the kitty before then. There's always B&Bs and the vet can board Jessie if it comes to that. Still, it isn't what I wanted Tuxedo's and my last week to be, being harried and hurried and not in our own space. Ah well, could be much much worse. At least we sold the berloody house!
