Dad
Today's my dad's birthday. He's sixty-nine and looks about fifteen years younger. "Us kids" (Tuxedo and I, David and Micah, and Jacob) got together and bought him a really good watch - he didn't have one and being the absent-minded little professor type he is, has no sense of time or even what day it is! He was really pleased, too. (He also laughed like a drain at the card Tux and I gave him - a Far Side contribution featuring a cows' poetry reading with the poet cow bemoaning the existence of electric fences. An inside joke here - Dad spent a couple of months restoring 23 kms of electric fence at our farm, whilst sheep got through fences, mixing mobs and resulting in about 100 unexpected lambs ...)
We had a big family meal to celebrate; Mum and Dad, Dad's sister and her husband, Mum's brother and his wife, David and Micah, Jacob, Tuxedo and me. Mum and I did a big - nay, huge - roast rump of beef, with bucketloads of roast spuds, pumpkin, sweet potato, parsnip, with broccoli and peas for greenery. Plus gallons of gravy mmm. For dessert, my Date Choc Torte (avec one birthday candle), with double cream. YUM.
Happy Birthday Daddy - hope you have a good one, and here's to many more.
