Hair
So.
I got my hair cut.
NO its nothing to do with the fact that my mother has been hounding me for the last nine months about my long hair, and how it needs a cut, and how daggy it is, and how inappropriate it is for someone of my age. I LIKE my hair long, dammit. See way back in October last year, when I was totally enamoured of my long hair.
I still feel that way, really I do (and its longer - way past bra strap level - so the whole sensual swish factor is even greater) but ... The time had come, the Walrus said, etc etc.
Basically the decision to have my hair cut (and a true CUT, not a mere trim) came down to two factors:-
- my hair has been falling out in handfuls. If I was rude I'd say I was shedding like a mothafucka (even though that makes no literal sense, it sounds good, serious like). A person loses on average up to ten strands a day; I was in the hundreds. I'd brush my hair and there'd be huge clumps in the brush; there were great hairballs in the bed and on the carpet, it was just GROSS. I have no idea why its doing this. Hair usually only falls out in such a fashion (a) six months after stress; (b) after pregnancy/childbirth; and (c) a side-effect of medication. None of which applies to me. So I'm just weird I guess, and while I know that having shorter hair won't stop the shedding, it won't be quite so frightening (because the strands will be that much shorter) and there won't be so much weight dragging at my scalp.
- I am very very tired of having to wear hair elastics, hair combs, clips, pins, yaddayadda. Oh I love my long hair but I hate having to tie it back, and when its tied back it hurts and gives me headaches.
So.
Today I had a hair cut.
I trust my hairdresser ("stylist") which is a good thing, and the trust is well-deserved. She's a great cutter, she understands about face shape and the way each individual's hair grows differently, and whether you're a high or low maintenance girl in re: product and time spent blowdrying and messing about in the bathroom.
I like my new style. I'm still a little in shock, and I daresay I'll have a few more girly moments over the next few days when I shriek and wail and want to hide. But its still a good cut and I'm happy.
Its short - I had a lot hacked off, from the original mid-back length to just touching my shoulders, with layering around my face and a multilayered fringe hitting various points above and below my eyebrows, plus some layering at the back.
Its really pretty damn cute.
