/Big Night Out In Rockingham
/[Album Mix]

I'd been wanting to do a track with Lo-Key Fu for a very long time and I'd also wanted to put out a version of this track. I couldn't use the mash-up version because I was worried at the time about clearing all the samples. We had a million one hour phone conversations where we would banter like a couple of particularly amusing breakfast radio hosts (Fu is a very funny man), in the course of which Fu revealed he had just come up with a killer drum kit for Ableton that was primed to make some kind of killer nasty break.

So I got him to make me a couple of beats. And they were killer. And nasty.

All the programming and filtering was pretty much done on instinct from that point; a lot of my inspiration came from a techno lp review I read that said it was a bad idea to try to marry too much narrative to glitches, which I thought was stupid. I wanted to explore the expressive power of filtering and this piece always lent itself very well to musical illustration.  It's had about four different arrangements.

Anyway, I'm really happy with how it turned out. In terms of the piece, I'd say the most effective version is the Idea Of Fun version, and this one has never worked well live. But this version achieves different things and is possibly interesting to people who would hate the other one and vice versa.
