So, thing is, I really like The Fauves and I want you to like them too because they're really pretty good.

They were a popular Victorian indie band in the late 90's, who peaked with a really high quality three-album run; Future Spa, Lazy Highways and Thousand Yard Stare. Nobody thought much of Thousand Yard Stare at the time, although its' singles did quite well, but it's a really fun, interesting album.

Their singer, Andy Cox, writes really amusing rants for their website, which these days seems to get updated only about once a year but is always worth a look if you're bored. The rants transfer into lyrical awesomeness; he's got a gift for self aware, funny and intelligent songwriting that simultaneously relates to reality and takes the piss out of it.

The following tracks aren't so much their best tracks as the ones I could find on YouTube, but they're as good a place to start as any. Unfortunately I couldn't find any decent clips from the synthy Thousand Yard Stare, my personal favourite.

I first got into them upon hearing Surf City Limits, and though time has faded its' ironic charms a little, I still think you should check it out;

This is I'll Work When I'm Dead from their new LP, Nervous Flashlights. I wanted to find a track for their mp3 single I Am Not Approachable, but to no joy. You can, however, score that for free from their Myspace.

So go look at thier website, pick up a copy of one of the aforementioned albums (or any of their albums really, they're pretty consistent).
