SAT 2/8/08	THE HORROR SHOP Shape East Perth, WA w/Injured Ninja + Mile End	One of my favourite shows ever. I felt pretty much on fire. Unfortunately this led to my stage banter being the ramblings of a smug arsehole, but what can you do? Still an amazing set.
SAT 26/7/08	WESLEY ANNE Northcote, VIC w/Casionova + Talkshow Boy	When this lineup came together, I was stoked because I knew how well it would work. And it did. Track down the other two acts online, it's totally worth it. My set was a blast, the small crowd gave me a lot of love. It couldn't have gone better.
FRI 25/7/08	2AM SHOW @ PONY Melbourne, VIC	I'd always wanted to do this gig. Halfway through the first song, everything broke, with no reason at all. I hadn't really soundchecked, which wasn't wise because I really need one; not so much for the mixing (it's a really easy sound mix) as to make sure all my equipment is working. I ended up having to try to "cover" the space by doing Electricity Solo acapella; not the most effective song choice with a 2 AM crowd. But the show built really well and I scored TWO ENCORES. A totally awesome experience.
THU 24/7/08	THE ALLEY CAT Hobart, TAS w/Bender	Hobart is pretty much my new favourite place. One of my favourite shows on the tour in an absolutely brilliant venue and for a really appreciative audience.
WED 23/7/08	THE PUB Bendigo, VIC	I played after a brilliant local trad-rock and roll band. The small crowd amassed were half quiet students and half hecklers, so it was a bit of a wierd one to start with, until the hecklers tried to pour beer on me. Then it became FUN.
FRI 18/7/08	SOSUEME Q Bar Darlinghurst, NSW w/Foxx On Fire + Blush Foundation	After a two minute intro to Nice, the beat kicked in and I started running around like a madman. Unfortunately, this resulted in my pulling out all the cords to my equipment and having to go through the longish process of resetting my computer and dying on stage. But by the end of the set, everyone was on side and we had a blast.
THU 17/7/08	GANGBUSTERS Bar 32 Canberra, ACT w/Dead Kitten Parade + Partybus + Burgerman	It's always nice when a venue is near empty when you start and you can pull in a crowd from off the street. Particularly when that crowd treats you all nice-like and stands up the front dancing around. To be honest my expectations for this were low, it being my first show in a new city and all, but it ended up being one of my all time favourites.
SAT 14/6/08	MC/DJ @ JUICEBOX'S WE ARE ONE The Bakery, Northbridge WA w/End Of Fashion + Voltaire Twins + The Preytells + Boys! Boys! Boys!	And I had a microphone and I ran around the audience and I didn't shut up and I had a good time and then I danced and then I hated watching the headliner and then I dj'ed and then I dribbled some more shit into the mic and then someone bought me some more white sambucca because I'd drunk all of their black sambucca...
FRI 5/6/08	DEUCE The Velvet Lounge, Mt Lawley WA w/Turbine 37 + Voltaire Twins	It surprises me, but there's always people at my Perth shows who haven't seen me before. Sure, there's a healthy contingent of people who haven't, but at this stage, I would've thought I'd be running out of newbies. At least newbies under the age of 30. It's a small city, after all. A really satisfyingly wierd one, this one.
FRI 23/5/08	CHINA HORSE II The Bakery, Northbridge WA w/Voltaire Twins + Electric Limosine + Shock Horror + Hickey + Petrosex + Rex Monsoon	1am slots in Perth are either shitty (everyone's gone home) or awesome (everyone's really messy). This one was one of the latter kinds of show. Absolutely mental. I performed in front of the stage for the first time in ages and was reminded of how awesome it is to do that. It makes for such easy access to the audience.
FRI 16/5/08	STRANGE MUSIC FOR STRANGE PEOPLE Mojo's Bar, North Fremantle, WA w/Cease + Whalehammer + Alpha Koi + Gutter Guitar	You've really gotta be in the right mood for abrasive, noisy post-rock bands, don't you? Tonight I just wasn't and it was just pissing me off. Pulled together a pretty spectacular set, even if the sound guy couldn't quite mix me so I could run out in front of the stage, which limited me a helluva lot.
THU 8/5/08	COTTONMOUTH Rosemount Hotel, North Perth WA	I was asked to do a performance at the spoken word night I MC and help co-ordinate. So I did my two punch mashup attack; Pup Culture/Big Night Out In Rockingham. It went quite well, despite my lights shorting out the stage power during the performer just before me.
SAT 12/4/08	GRAFTON PRIMARY RELATIVITY IN MOTION TOUR Capitol Perth, WA w/Grafton Primary + Death Disco DJ's + Harlequin League	It was fun being able to play with the Grafton Primary guys again. I played a pretty solid set to a half full room and I had a nice wee chunk of the crowd on side by the end. If I hadda had 15 minutes longer, I coulda got 'em. I really injured myself falling backwards off a bench during a verse of I Feel Dirty, but I'm pretty sure it looked spectacular, so 'sall good.
SAT 18/3/08	THE "TOMAS FORD IS POOR AND GOING ON TOUR WHICH IS HARD TO DO WHEN YOU'RE POOR SO HE'S HAVING A FUNDRAISER" FUNDRAISER The Bakery Northbridge, WA w/Turbine 37 + Brash And Sassy + Voltaire Twins + DXU + D'Cyphr + Hickey + Delete Delete DJ's	A killer lineup who all played really great sets, all the cash going to my touring and I still found a reason to go home grumpy. See, the audience were really weird and there wasn't anyone there I could really play with. They were either too enthusiastic or a bit tired or not into it. Which was really wierd, given that it was my fundraiser; I was expecting an absolutely insane show. Still, I got to premiere a collaboration with Turbine 37 and it was still fun. Just a bit surprising, that's all.
SUN 24/2/08	BLAC BLOCS "UNDER THE PAVEMENT" SINGLE LAUNCH Hyde Park Hotel North Perth, WA w/Blac Blocs + Genghis + Bonehouse	I've known Allan Boyd, who fronts Blac Blocs, for aaaaaages. Although his spoken word, electronic and folk(ish) projects have always been brilliant, it's been a big relief to see his rock project Blac Blocs grow beyond the jammy beast it was last year, into a political rock monster of doom. This show is also notable for the smashing of my MIDI controller when I realised my repairs weren't gonna hack it. Seriously, go out and buy yourself something digital and expensive and then smash the shit out of it. Then call me to thank me for the suggestion.
SAT 16/2/08	WAMi FESTIVAL ELECTRONIC SHOWCASE Shape Nightclub East Perth, WA w/Brash And Sassy + Electric Limosine + Ambidexter	As one of four electronic acts WAM decreed to include in their festival out of the entire Perth scene (they like their blues/rock/folk-based music), this show was kinda a big deal. Kinda funny then that I got a bit overexcited with a new lighting toy I bought (a remote-controlled powerboard) and shorted out all of my stage power three times, culminating in me totally fucking my midi controller. I did a hack repair job on it but, as the following entry shows... it was no good. I sang "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" for five minutes to cover the downtime while I reset my gear and somehow the audience were still on side, so the bits I didn't fuck up must've been pretty good.
FRI 15/2/08	CANDY HEART CABARET The Bakery Perth, WA w/Voltaire Twins + Brash And Sassy + Atalantika + Hickey + Bend And Snap	Went and got drunk before the show at the Love Is My Velocity karaoke party, sang some Britney and some Pulp, which was rad. So I psyched for this, think it was one of the better shows I've played actually.
FRIDAY 3/2/08	BIG DAY OUT LILYWORLD STAGE Claremont Showgrounds, WA w/Bjork + LCD Soundsystem + Regurgitator and all your other favourite bands who, no, I didn't get to meet.	11AM is a big ask at the Big Day Out. But I did it. I had my own dressing room, which was nice, even if my Brash And Sassy girlfriends ended up sharing it...
02/02/08	HQ Leederville, WA w/Project Mayhem + Hollywood Graves + Matty Trash And The Horribles + Suffer Jet City	It's always fun to play to all ages punk crowds. They're really easy to surprise, 'cos they're surprised I'm even there in the first place. I left my monitor in Freo and had to borrow one from the venue and they weren't happy about it.
19/01/08	Hyde Park Hotel North Perth, WA w/Sons Of Rico + Genghis + Hayley Beth	I gained a tambourine. I've tried to give it back to everyone involved in the show, they all claim it's not theirs. It's totally mine now.
04/01/08	NEW YEARS' CABARET Mojo's Bar North Fremantle, WA w/Trash Madonna + Baby Razors	A ramschackle gig, but my first after remixing a lot of my tracks over the christmas break. They all went well.
29/01/07	PEATS' RIDGE FESTIVAL Glenworth Valley, NSW CANCELLED	Stupid festival cancellation (due to weather btw). Now I've got a $700 airfare voucher 'cos the flight to Sydney is so fucking expensive for NYE. If I'm gonna fly east it usually costs me half that. So now I'm basically paying double for my next flight. Oh well. I signed the contract. My own fault.
SOMETIME IN DECEMBER	ANDREW W.K. REPLACEMENT Shape East Perth, WA w/Bone + Chris Cobilis	Andrew W.K. pussied out on his show 'cos of what amounted to a visa technicality. Apparently I scared the shit out of him.
14/12/07	PARTYTOWN WA The Bakery Northbridge, WA w/Project Mayhem + The Homicides + Trash Madonna + The Crepetter Children	I really like playing with punk bands. Most of these bands I really respect. Although the sound mix was a bit too radio friendly - it made garage punk dudes Project Mayhem sound like Jet. Wierd. I played a really aggressive semi-industrial set, including a song I wrote for the occasion, "Run With The Fun" that I don't think I'll ever perform again.
SUN 09/12/07	WA INVASION The Arthouse Melbourne, VIC w/Fear Of Comedy + Mile End + Some Other Punk Bands I Can't Remember The Names Of	A fucking awesome audience, last show of an agonising, if brief, tour and the last gig (not that we knew it at the time) of my favourite playmates Fear Of Comedy (waaaah!): awesome. Bit odd that one of them put their fist through a window on the way home because the adrenaline rush was so huge? Yeah, I guess it was.
SUN 09/12/07	The Empress Brunswick, VIC w/Outward Obtooce	Afternoon show to three of my friends and the soundguy, where I was opening for a local oz hip hop duo (who were, admittedly, great). Not the high point of my trip.
SAT 08/12/07	SINthetic Abode St. Kilda, VIC	SINthetic is the gothic night at Melbourne fetish club Abode. I was looking forward to this for months, 'cos I really enjoy putting my act in new contexts and seeing how people react. I was expecting this to be an easy show, but I'd forgotten how there's heaps of unspoken rules in the world of fetish, all of which I break. Probably some the most interesting audience reactions I've had.

SAT 01/01/07	DJ SET Shape Opening Night Shape East Perth, WA w/The E.L.F. (Gerling) + Bang Gang DJ's + Voltaire Twins + heaps of others	...and ran here to play a caning 30 minute dj set to a mostly empty room at 3:30. But I messed with their heads, I think, and they really responded to my remixes, which was cool, considering I'd even played Daft Punk up until that point to absolutely no reaction. I got handed a massive drink card when I arrived, but had no time to drink it. :(
SAT 01/01/07	SIN Gilkinsons' Dance Studio East Perth, WA w/Fear Of Comedy + Trash Madonna	I wanted to play here as far back as when it was Dominion, so this was one of those cool moments where you wish your 17 year old self was there so you could totally brag to him. My 1 AM set went off, I dropped a Marilyn Manson cover and then literally ran upstairs with my shit, into my car and drove...
28/11/07	Capitol Perth, WA w/Architecture In Helsinki	I love being me sometimes. Could the contrast between gigs this week be any higher? Plus I got to open for Architecture In Helsinki, who are one of my favourites. The Globe was full before I entered and everyone was into it until one of my brothers' friends made themselves known and everyone realised I was just a local; the cultural cringe that filled the room was hilarious. And suffocating. But the show was fun.
25/11/07	TWIN POLES Artrage Festival The Bakery Northbridge, WA w/Voltaire Twins + Boys! Boys! Boys! + Mink Mussel Creek + Abbe May And The Rockin' Pneunomia + Felicity Groom And Andrew Ryan and a few other acts I think maybe too?	Another fun show, this was actually my only presence in Artrage in 07, which I found pretty sad given my usual megainvolvement.
15/11/07	CHINA HORSE ONE Velvet Lounge Mt Lawley, WA w/Voltaire Twins + Boys! Boys! Boys!	A packed Velvet Lounge is a lovely place to play, particularly when everyone's up the front, dancing their arses off and having so much fun.
WED 17/11/07	TOMAS FORD VS AIRPORT CITY SHUFFLE Rosemount Hotel North Perth, WA w/Airport City Shuffle + Blac Blocs	It's good to try new things, so me and ACS thought we might do a VS set to commemorate the joyness of the remix I did for them; but the vs thing kinda sucked. It broke our sets' momentum and it felt kinda wierdly competetive; which it shouldna been. An odd show, that one.
12/10/07	APOCOLYPSE WOW! The Bakery Northbridge, WA w/Fear Of Comedy + Trash Madonna + some others	Playing for goths is fun. I get to play all the angry stuff that other audiences don't like for an appreciative crowd. Plus everyone is dressed well. And in Perth, I know most of them. So it's nice.

THU 27/10/07	PICKPOCKET Candy's Apartment Kings' Cross, VIC w/Red Light Nation + some other bands	Rule #1 Of Booking Tomás: If You Put Me In A Side Room, Even If It's The Size Of A Toilet, I'm Still Going To Draw More Of The Crowd Than Whatever Lame Sydney Guitar Band You Have On The Main Stage This was so much fun it hurt. I played on a shitty PA in the back room of Candy's which is REALLY small, but it was full of people who hadn't even so much as heard of me before having their brains blown off. Only lame thing was that I then had to walk into the city with all my gear to catch public transport/nightrider busses back to the far western suburbs.

I had a feeling like I was doing everything perfectly; my dance moves, my singing, my confrontational shit, it was all awesomecore. The end of my dark patch.

13/07/07	ROCK AGAINST RACISM City Farm Claisebrook, WA w/Curse Ov Dialect + Elf Transporter/DJ Wasabi + Blac Blocs + Turbine 37 + Rhythm Infinit And DJ Missile + Airport City Shuffle	Playing for the activist/vegan crowd can be an either way kinda deal; but tonight they loved it. They were all sitting on carpet like schoolkids at an assembly too, which made for a fun dynamic and for easy entrapment.
WED 11/07/07	GOING SOLO The Moon Cafe Northbridge, WA w/Chris Cobilis + Josh Fontaine + Superengine	I shouldn't play at places where people eat. It makes me feel like Hedwig. This was the source of the famous derogatory napkin.
22/06/07	STABBED IN THE INTERFACE Norfolk Basement Lounge Fremantle, WA w/Extended Summer Surgery + Oki Oki	I was surprised we got a pretty good crowd tonight for a really very wierd lineup. All the bands were great though, so I guess that's what we call "justice" in the hood, motherfucker.

16/06/07	ONE NIGHT STAND Blue Room Theatre Northbridge, WA w/Brash And Sassy	Disgruntled WAAPA Intern/"Stage Manager": "The actors at WAAPA do confrontation, but they're nice about it." This show felt like an achievement; it was a pretty perfect festival-style presentation of my A-Material. It sold out in preale but the seats were oddly unfilled for the actual shows, which was wierd. And the legal scare, combined with the stupid headfuck melodramatic split some collaborators pulled on me that week, had me in a bit of a creative coma for months to follow. A great show but it started another dark patch for me

After I played we had a noise jam but I left when the police threatened to seize gear. I'm so nowhere near as hardcore as I want to be.

Some guy bought my CD off me in the carpark and gave me $50 for it because I didn't have any change, thus absolutely making my day.

I can't believe the latter got the best reaction...
16/03/07	POCKET DISCO/DOWN UNDERGROUND: RTRFM FUNDRAISER The Bakery Northbridge, WA w/Bourgeois Bogan DJ's + Brash And Sassy + Extended Summer Surgery + Dominy + Petrosexual And Storm + Electric Limosine + Mystery Flight DJ's + The Claps + The Typhoons + Slackjaw and Hykus + Naik + Diger Rokwell + Benny Chill & Zeke + The Needle Runnaz + Bjorn Beyta_	On a drum riser that took up a huge amount of space in the audience for most of the night. I got there really early and made a bit of a fortress out of it with milk crates, gaffa and stick lights. Fun. Tough crowd though, those radio kids.

The booker came up and asked me if I could play a bit less bangin'. Then I started jumping around and doing my usual shit, the lighting guy gave me appropriately rockstar lighting and it turned into one of the coolest things ever. Freaking out arty Claremont chicks is fun.

07/02/07	GOING SOLO Hyde Park Hotel North Perth WA w/Luke Dux + some other acoustic guitar playing folks	Andrew Ryan went through a relatively brief phase of booking me for these shows, which are usually accoustic or at the very least... subdued. It's pretty funny to come on after some folkies and play noisy, noisy shit as loud as you can.

28/01/07	BOUGEOIS BOGAN Bar Open Northbridge WA w/Snax + Bang Gang + DJ Sweaterthief + Dom + Mystery Flight DJ's + Steffan Gooch + Melt + Damian John	They have a fake grand piano, I jumped all over it. I got a small crowd but they were all cool and the touring guys came down to watch; Gus Da Hoodrat in particular looked like he was having his balls tickled the whole time. Snax was great, by the way, you should totally listen to his records. Prince-ish but with a more glitchy thing going on.

02/12/06	HQ (All Ages) Leederville, WA w/Fear Of Comedy + The Fault + Tangled Thoughts Of Leaving	This was an amazing gig. The all ages kids went crazy for it, so the show was resultingly pretty insane. This is the first time I can recall licking anyone's toes after removing their shoes.
01/12/06	Hyde Park Hotel North Perth, WA w/Fear Of Comedy + Sure Fire Midnights + Trash Madonna And The Downtown Vamps	I can remember all the gigs I played with Fear Of Comedy; they were always really fucked up shows. This one was pretty beery.
23/11/06	ELECTRO FREO Swan Accoustic Lounge North Fremantle, WA w/Ampoule + Gospel Superstars	A bit of a chilled out set, this one, focusing on some of my more relaxed experiments for a crowd of about six people. That acoustic lounge sure does pull 'em in for the electronic shows.

24/10/06 - 04/11/06	TOMAS FORD VS THE AUDIENCE Blue Room Theatre, WA w/Zack Adams + Xavier Michaledes	This was a really important show to me, as it let me reinvent myself in the more confrontational style I'd been chasing. At the time it all seemed like a lot of fun, but looking back, I can see how angry I was at being largely ignored by Perth audiences and the frustration of being a new artist at Adelaide Fringe really came in here. I was going to go record an album straight after the show and I'm glad I didn't because it would've been a very angry, one dimensional record, whereas now I think I've expanded on the material to the point that there's a lot of vulnerability in there as well. That said, if this had've toured like I wanted it to (I needed arts funding to make it happen because of the scale of it), it would've developed into a real monster of a show. As it was, I'm really proud of what we achieved on that; it was pure punk rock intensity.
31/10/06	MOON HALLOWEEN PARTY The Moon Cafe Northbridge, WA w/Snowman + Silkie Krusher And The Sex	Before one of the VS shows, I carted all my gear, which was wired up in a shopping trolley for VS, up the road to The Moon. A sterling example of why I shouldn't play early slots; they woulda been a great crowd if they were drunk.
18/10/06	THE LAUGH RESORT The Brass Monkey Northbridge, WA w/Justn Hamilton + Advanced Comedy Solution	I don't often do comedy gigs unless I've got something to promote, but it works pretty well when I do. Obviously I've gotta pick the right material, but people are used to musical comedians not being funny. Usually it's because they're just crap. So I can get away with doing my thing in that environment pretty well, so long as I keep it light.

And then I played. Not well thought out on my part at all, that one.

Since it was a dark club, when I was in the crowd, nobody could see me, so they could just pretend there wasn't a show going on, which meant I was constantly surprising people.

He's Mr. Wierd (awesome) Hippie Blues. That said, there was a table of north fremantle residents who were drunk and loved me and got me drunk. One of them was an orthodontist who said he coulda done the surgery I was mid-way through by that point on my front tooth at a low price if he'd met me a few weeks earlier. That stung. $3000 stung.

A great lineup that formed a non-stop bizarre fringe cabaret, all of whom I really respect, a great crowd who filled the venue despite an almost total lack of publicity and my most well-executed show to date. I look at photos of this one and wish I could go back to that moment. Perfect.
24/05/06	FIRST RUN The Bakery Northbridge, WA w/a stack of local short films	They had cinema seating right up near the stage. In intermission, I got to attack people who were dumb enough to think the front row was a good seat and who were there to see film.
20/05/06	Sound Suite Studios Ashfield, WA w/Fear Of Comedy + Trash Madonna + Public Castration	About thirty people were there in total but this was an amazing show. It was at this rehearsal studio in the middle of nowhere and they'd set up all these lights and everyone was in costumes; awesome. Plus it was the only time I got to see the short lived Public Castration, who were phenomenal. I watched them from over the suburban-style fence while I tended to the door and drank $15 Baldivis Estate Merlot.

24/02/06 - 19/03/06 Every night except Monday	Tomas Ford's Cabaret Of Death Adelaide Fringe East End Exchange Adelaide, SA	As you can see from all of these dates, I did a lot of shows during Adelaide Fringe. I still managed to lose a lot of money. Like, stupid amounts. Also, I'd just married two months earlier, so this was hard and by contrast to my first time at Adelaide, it was hellish. I (and most of the acts I know) was pretty much ignored. I'd last been in town primarily with a two-hander comedy theatre thing that'd built an audience over its' three week run, so I was expecting a similar build and it never happened. I had some amazing shows and I tightened a lot of things about my craft here, but it was the most draining three and a half weeks imaginable. That said, I love Adelaide Fringe and I keep trying to get back but I don't want to do it again without funding and nobody wants to give me money. Hopefully in 2009.

My shows all went really well with the crowd, which was pretty frustrating because it never translated into ticket sales for me. Actually, that was the thing about Adeliade Fringe, I built up a healthy notoriety, but nobody wanted to see me. I was the K-Fed of the festival.

28/02/06	Flinders' University O-Week Flinders' University, SA	I did a lunchtime show at orientation, running around a football field, attacking randomly picnicking first year biology majors. So much fun. And it paid my airfares. Brilliant.
16/02/06	Freemasons' Hotel Geraldton, WA	People always worry about putting me on in regional settings, but it can work really well. Audiences in towns expect entertainment, and I'm good at that. They don't seem to mind the IDM-influenced electropunk either. ;)
05/02/06	BIG DAY OUT Lilypad Stage Claremont Showgrounds Claremont, WA w/The Stooges + Beasts Of Bourbon + Vitalic + Gerling + MIA + End Of Fashion + A Whole Pile Of Other Bands	The fact that I got to play on the same day as The Stooges was pretty cool. This was actually the best show I did there; they gave me an hour to play with and I ran around climbing on things, doing probably one of the most insanse shows of my life. Then I went and spazzed out to Vitalic (so awesome), tiring myself out so that after Beasts Of Bourbon (my first time even hearing their music, and it connected with me straight through the dick) and The Stooges (OMGOMGOMG), I pretty much was ready to collapse. At which point my brother and I had to endure sonicanimation and then 2manydj's. Fucking awful end to the day.

Those indie kids were expecing The Bends. I gave them Kid A.

I told my gal I'd be able to make her new years' party after my set, which finished at 10. I was on public transport. I had to run from the bakery to the busport, then bus to canning highway and walk for twenty minutes through Applecross with all my equipment. I arrived at 11:35 and everyone was too drunk to be charismatic. I was very fucking sober.

Traianos makes some of the most unrelenting noise you'll ever hear and Cobilis is just amazing. Anyway, having the approval and encouragement of that crew was a big deal for me.

The bouncers kicked him out, throwing him down the stairs of the venue in such a way that he cracked his head wide open and he was megaconcussed. Hospital ensued. Totally bizarre.

My laptop was out of comission at this point, so this was a karaoke setup.

Which was ironic as I used this show as an initial experiment in seeing how fucked up an audience would let me get. There was this great moment at the end of a spoken word piece I used to do, Square Peg, No Hole, where I really let the character get lost into an emotional hole.

But I'd managed to conivence Tim Watts, Luke Ryan and Wyatt Nixon-Lloyd to be my male dancers for the night. We did something resembling awesome.
25/09/05	"ABANDON ROBOT" COMPILATION LAUNCH Velvet Lounge Mt Lawley, WA w/The Dead Trees + Dobson And Fitch + Jasmine Loop Control + Airport City Shuffle + Adam Trainer	This was such a rock star moment. I headlined and opened with a track I don't do anymore, Getting Aware, which was a glitchy industrial thing. I remember it sitting really well in the context of the night. I'm writing this in 2008 and I often look back on my old shows (even from 07) and think the music was a bit lame but it was probably just different and a bit more lofi. That track was pretty cool, but it was a direction I needed to steer away from for a while and fit more with the first album. Maybe I'll bring it back somehow.

I blogged along the sidewalk in chalk. It was great. All the newspapers found out about it and I couldn't move for a while because I had so much media attention. The work itself was really satisfying, people read it and then came to talk to me about it when they found me still writing. When I finished, it rained. Perfect.

They were looking for "poet" poets and somehow ended up with me and Klare doing live art and music. This show was a workshop event with a lot of locals who made some great work.
05/06/05	(vs Klare Lanson) Conversations Geraldton, WA	An amazing show, a definite highlight. It wasn't the longest set, but Klare and my work contrasted really well and I did some really insane stuff. I smashed the hell out of my overhead projector, apparently damaging some dancefloor (sorry about that, festival organisers). I remember running around the audience, soaking wet, doing bizarre physical theatre tumbling during Klare's Whatever.

Not being paid isn't exactly much of a sacrifice in a business where you're usually lucky to get paid anyway. But I was really happy to be part of this; anything that raises awareness of the refugee situation is brilliant. It's funny how the local scene gets excited over bands who really aren't very good every so often before they inevitably fade into obscurity. Colonial Banquet were one such band.

27/02/05	National Hotel Geelong, VIC w/The Bedroom Philosopher + Klare Lanson + The Mysterious Super Poet! + Gabrielle Everall + Amelia Walker + Steve Smart + Kerryn Tredrea	Legendary amongst those who came, nobody from Geelong actually came due to a big festival on the other side of town and my own inexperience in promo; but it didn't matter because I brought enough performers with me that it was a riotous night anyway. We got totally smashed and had a sleepover in the hotel's dorm-style accomodation; it was a blast. Did I mention I played a two hour set?
26/02/05	Glitch Bar + Cinema North Fitzroy, VIC w/The Bedroom Philosopher + Klare Lanson + The Mysterious Super Poet! + Amelia Walker + Steve Smart	Everyone there said it was too many acts, that it went too long. Which was true. But it was also really cool and the cinema was packed out. I love this venue so much.

06/02/05	BIG DAY OUT Lilypad Stage Claremont Showgrouds Claremont, WA	The infamous naked Big Day Out where I stripped down and faux-hit on to giggling girls during Big Night Out In Rockingham. Fucking hilarious. KK Juggy from Machine Gun Fellatio was looking on and I very much heart her stuff.
05/02/05	The Castle Northbridge, WA w/Brainhorn + Pegman vs Captain Fat	The trains on the way back to freo were cancelled, so I had to catch a lonnnng replacement bus and then wait for a taxi. That wasn't cool. Playing with random Mr Bungle-influenced punkfunk bands was pretty amusing though.
28/01/05	AESOTERIC (w/VJ ZOO) The Velvet Lounge Mt Lawley, WA	My first gig with VJ Zoo was a huge success; the audience left straight afterwards, even though there were dj's, which is always a good sign.
23/01/05	RIPPIN' UP ROCKO All Ages Rockingham PCYC Rockingham, WA w/Selfless + Shot 'O' Blues + The Longest Day + My Third July + Blunt Hope	I tried to play guitar, which was a bit stupid, since I wasn't very good at it back then (only in 2008 have I developed any level of radness at it). But it was a realised dream to play at a venue that housed the Rocko Rage blue light discos back when I was growing up.
12/12/04	SEMIKAZI 02 CD LAUNCH Leederville Hotel Upstairs Leederville, WA w/Bozo + Ele-Mental + Audio Cephlon + The Resonance + Rawbone + MaxWell + LD120 + Krazie Kraze + VJ Findus & Bunniboi	In what would become a recurring feature of my sets, my gear managed to break itself pretty spectacularly at this show and I ended up having to run off of cd, so I couldn't do Big Night Out In Rockingham, which I'd just finished in time for this show.
28/10/04	THE WRITER IS DEAD (vs Antipoet + Gabrielle Everall) Artrage Festival The Bakery Northbridge, WA w/Hancock & Denton	A really satisfying and well executed hour of performance done track-for-track with Gabby and Antipoet (Alan Boyd). Then I went and got drunk with Bedroom Philosopher and some of his groupies at the Bog in the arse end of Northbridge as everything else was closed. Fucking hilarious.
10/10/04 09/10/04	QFEST Cue Courtroom Cue, WA	At the end of the first day, I was in ecstatic shock; not only had they programmed me to perform in the town's actual, functioning courthouse (I was supposed to be in a pub beer garden but it was a bit too yuck), but it filled with people and they had me in there again the day after!!! And it filled with people again! Plus the town and festival itself were amazing; the furthest out in the middle of the WA desert I've ever been and full to the rafters with random culture. And Snuff Puppets, who were amazing. I broke the output on my sound card at these shows, but I don't care; one of the most amazing opportunities I've ever had.
04/10/04	THIS IS NOT ART FESTIVAL CLUB This Is Not Art Honeysuckle Complex Newcastle, NSW	The massive space made for disgusting sound and nobody could make out what I was saying (ironically, at a writers' fest), so this was a bit of a physical show. Fun.
25/09/04	MELBOURNE FRINGE FESTIVAL CLUB North Melbourne Town Hall Melbourne, VIC	I overheard someone say "he's really working for it, isn't he?" And I was. I was pretty desperate for interstate cred and determined to win that crowd over if it killed me.
22/09/04	Melbourne Fringe Bar Open Melbourne, VIC	This was my biggest interstate show up until that point, and it was a very busy Bar Open that let me terrorise an audience for an hour. I had a blast and, from memory, put on a really great set of spoken-word stuff. The reviews were really good from this one.
23/07/04	TALL CONCRETE COLLECTIVE'S "COALESCE" FESTIVAL (7 Hour Marathon Performance) The Bakery Northbridge, WA w/Zack Adams + Stina + Hydra Poesis + Ele-Mental + Dave Miller	This was pretty fun to do; I made an absolute mess out of a room in The Bakery and performed non-stop for seven hours, pulling poems out of a hat, attempting to remember plays I'd done earlier in the year... lots of stuff. Wierd fun.
21/07/04 + 22/07/04	"Electricity Solo" and "Go Bucket Inhale Bucket Go" at PUTTING ON AN ACT Perth Institute Of Contemporary Art Perth, WA	Between Zack Adams and myself (we also collaborated on an impro piece), we pretty much pwned POAA that year. I was invited to the judges' selection night with "either one" but couldn't make it due to my seven hour stupidity. Doh.
29/05/04	Seaview Hotel South Fremantle, WA w/Maple + Cordata	For some reason the drug dealers who were running the Seaview at that time saw fit to give Maple a residency. Maple were a legendary Perth non-band who played unrehearsed noisepop with a drum machine, guitars and lyrics about anal fisting. This was superfun.
11/05/04	THE FURPHY PROJECT The Railway Hotel North Fremantle, WA w/Antipoet vs Kevin Gillam + Hancock & Denton + Jennifer Korneberger	These readings were based around a loose collective of poets exploring unusual styles of performance. This one was pretty awesome, as everyone was doing very different stuff - Jennifer did a piece with bits of kitchen utensils, Antipoet rocked out with some cello, Hancock & Denton rocked the Casio Underworld stylee and I did spoken word electro punk stuff. Rad fun.

They had me in this big, decrepit pergola thing. Nobody watched, everyone ran away. Probably not that surprising, given that we did Heath Ledger Won't Return My Phone Calls and a noise casio version of 10CC's I'm Not In Love.

This particular instalment featured Mark from Descend Here fucking around on a casio while I writhed on the floor, thinking I was a genius.

14/11/02 - 16/11/02	"Go Bucket Inhale Bucket Go" AT NINE LIVES Notre Dame University Performing Arts Centre Fremantle, WA	Following the success of Big Night Out In Rockingham, which was performed at about a million university fundraisers (!!!) that I can't remember the dates for, I made the trippier drug poem Go Bucket Inhale Bucket Go for this season of short pieces. This led to me recording Postal Aid Package From Mumlfor the Noise festival and thus pretty much my career to date.
14/07/02	INCREDIBLE ELECTRONIC SOUND MACHINES! The Orient Fremantle, WA w/Noisestruct + Lux Mammoth	I organised a weekly electro night at the Orient during mid-semester break and the finale featured my first proper solo set and the two loudest acts in the city. I don't know how I managed to pull that set together - it was all one big Fruityloops 1 file running on my old Pentium 133 desktop!
??/07/02	"Big Night Out In Rockingham" AT ARABIAN NIGHTS Notre Dame University Performing Arts Centre Fremantle, WA	I'd written this a year before as a possible song lyric (I'd always been interested in spoken style songs) and it was screaming out to be a theatre piece. So it became a physical comedy pretty precisely set to electro and set the tone for my solo pracice from that point onwards. It was a bit of a hit.
