Juventus Buys Patrick Vieira
Three days after being presented
as a Juve player, the 29-year-old made his debut, playing 45 minutes in Sunday’s
5-1 friendly win over Serie C club Pavia and hitting the post with a shot.
"Everyday I am more convinced that I have made the right choice," Vieira told
the club’s official website, www.juventus.it.
"I am in a great environment, a fantastic team and a great club."
Vieira, who is captain of the French national team, signed a five-year contract
with the Italian champions last Thursday after spending nine seasons at Highbury.
His former manager, Arsene Wenger, insists his decision to sell Vieira was right
after years of fighting to keep him in the face of overtures from Europe’s big
hitters.
Wenger said: "There is never a right time to sell Patrick because he is a great
player, but I would have had to sell him at some time and when he has a
five-year offer from Juventus you cannot stand in his way any more."
