BRESCIA - JUVENTUS 0 - 0

Sunday 19 Nov 2000, kick-off 4:00PM CET

The match with Brescia was the perfect opportunity for the Bianconero to make a fresh start after the disappointment of going out of Europe. The match with Lazio was a step in the right direction. Juventus had Paulo Montero back in their line-up for the match with Brescia, after a long time out with a groin injury. The Uruguayan returned to the defence where he played alongside Ciro Ferrara and Alessandro Birindelli. The Juve defence had little to worry about in the opening half hour with the only Brescia chance being a cross come shot by Kozminski on 27 minutes. Juventus controlled the play while Brescia were looking to break on the counter attack.

Filippo Inzaghi laid on two excellent chances, firstly for Alessandro Del Piero after only two minutes making the most of an error by Bonera and then two minutes later for Zinedine Zidane but both efforts were savedc by the goalkeeper. The Brescia number one was called to action again on 19 minutes when he had to deal with a difficult corner from the boot of Del Piero. The Bianconeri continued to dominate proceedings creating two further chances. The first opportunity fell to Inzaghi, who shot high over the bar, while the second chance fell to Zidane. The Frenchman hit a free kick just over the bar. The last action of the first half was a long range shot from Alessio Tacchinardi and a free kick from dario Hubner that went wide.

For the start of the second half Carlo Ancelotti took off Alessandro Del Piero and brought on Darko Kovacevic. The half began with Brescia on the attack and Edwin Van der Sar was called to action when Brescia put in three crosses looking for the head of Hubner but the Dutchman was up to the task. After that the match took on the same pattern as the first half with Juve dominating. There were efforts from Tacchinardi and Inzaghi with Zinedine Zidane pulling the strings. The Frenchman almost scored but he just failed to beat the goalkeeper to a through ball. On 61 minutes the goalkeeper could only stand and watch as Edgar Davids’ shot bounced off the Brescia crossbar.

With 15 minutes left David Trezeguet then came on to replace Inzaghi and Antonio Conte replaced Gianluca Zambrotta. But things continued as before with the Frenchman twice coming close. But for all Juve’s efforts they could not break down Brescia who thanks to their keeper Srnicek who made two late saves from Zidane and Kovacevic, grabbed a point.
