The match began in the mist of the smoke bombs, and Juve's ideas were none too clear either to begin with. It took Faith Terim's side a mere five minutes to open the scoring on the pitch of the Delle Alpi thanks to a shot from the edge of the area from Enrico Chiesa, who has now scored in each of his last four games. Much of the credit must go to Portuguese ace Rui Costa who laid the ball on for the ex-Parma man.
Juve attempted an immediate response through Darko Kovacevic, who was partnering Filippo Inzaghi up front with David Trezeguet starting from the bench. Alessio Tacchinardi who went on to have an influential role in the Juve midfield, found the Yugoslavia international in space, but unable to beat the keeper.
Fiorentina were making a nuisance of themselves on the break as Juve tried to press forward looking for the equaliser, and Pierini almost doubled the visitors advantage after he met a Rui Costa cross, but his header went just over after 11 minutes of play.
Juve had been warned and it took only a matter of minutes for Fiorentina to finally get their second, which they did through Nuno Gomes who broke at pace down the left and allowed the Dutch keeper no chance.
Things were beginning to look desperate for the Bianconeri, despite the odd half chance. In the end it was Antonio Conte, so often providential in the past, who drew the Bianconeri back into the game when Michele Parmatti's buccaneering run into the box resulted in a melee from which the Juve captain was able to get a shot on goal. 2-1 after 33 minutes.
The half finished with the visitors just ahead but the home side beginning to make their presence felt.
The restart found the Bianconeri pressing forward in search of an equaliser, and after only four minutes of the second half Filippo Inzaghi won himself a penalty. The Juve number 9 converted to make his goal tally in Serie A an impressive 80 goals. Juve couldn't have hoped to start the second half in better fashion.
But Inzaghi wasn't happy with a simple penalty, and so he chose to celebrate the first goal with a spectacular volley on the half turn from a cross from Paramatti. 3-2. Juve had turned things around and were ahead for the first time in the match after 56 minutes of play.
As the Bianconero faithful were preparing themselves for yet another home win against the Tuscan outfit (Juve had beaten the Viola in every Serie A fixture played at the Delle Alpi), Chiesa stepped up to spoil the party by getting his second and Fiorentina's third only seven minutes after Inzaghi had hit the back of the net. His pin-point free-kick crept in at the far post. 3-3. After that, despite a valiant effort from the Bianconeri, the Viola were able to hold on for a point.
