First Half
Juve, today wearing their new blue kit for the first time, started better than
the Puglia outfit, with some great work by Zidane in midfield leading to an
overhit shot by Zambrotta in the third minute.
Fascetti’s team replied with a break away effort by the combination of Bari’s golden boy, Cassano and the ex-Udinese player Poggi, who confused the Juve defence and led to two near misses in the sixth and eighth minutes and forced a great save from Van der Sar, five minutes later.
In the 20th minute Juve’s best chance came from a short corner in which Tacchinardi picked up the ball and passed to Inzaghi whose header was well saved by Gillet.
Three minutes later, Neqrouz headed home for Bari, but the goal was disallowed as the Moroccan was seen to have fouled Van der Sar.
Shortly afterwards Juventus were at the other end with Zidane serving Kovacevic who headed wide of the post.
The chances continued for Juve, Inzaghi’s shot was saved in the 36th by the impressive Gillet, who had excelled throughout the half.
Bari’s response came a minute later from Cassano whose shot was blocked by Montero. Gillet performed excellently again in the 41st initially parrying Zidane’s free kick and then Tacchinardi’s shot from the rebound.
The final chance of the half fell to the Bianconeri two minutes into injury time when Kovacevic headed wide from a Davids cross.
Second Half
The second half began with Zambrotta being substituted for Brighi, and Bari
going on the attack, with a Poggi free kick in the second minute that required a
good save from Van der Sar, and then a long distance shot from Mazzarelli in the
ninth.
Four minutes later Juve were at the other end, Zidane supplying Inzaghi with a cross that went wide of the post. Pessotto then passed to Zidane who headed over the bar.
Ancelotti brought on Del Piero for Kovacevic, while Fascetti substituted De Rosa for Osmanovski, and Madsen for Cassano, in order to boost the Bari attack.
But it was Juventus again who in the 24th had another good chance. Davids began the move running down the left hand side of the pitch, and passed to Del Piero whose shot was saved by Gillet.
As time passed neither side was budging so Ancelotti brought on Fonseca for Brighi in the 32nd minute to give Juve a three-pronged attack.
In the end it was Del Piero who had the final word as in the 36th minute he picked up the ball on the left and with an excellent solo effort beat the Bari keeper.
In a week that has seen the tragic loss of his father, he has shown that he is capable of performing under huge amounts of pressure, scoring twice in two games.
