SALAS PRESENTED
What was described as a mystery, has instead become a story with a happy ending. Marcelo Salas is now officially a Juventus player, and indeed he was paraded to the press last night at the Stadium, with Administrative organiser Antonio Giraudo, and General director Luciano Moggi.Salas presented himself to the press, seeming relieved, and somewhat anxious to get working with Marcello Lippi and the squad; "I'm very happy because I've come to a great club", were the Chilean's first words. "This is a winning set-up, not just due to the players who play here, but also due to the clubs directors. I see my arrival here as a reward for all the good work that I've done in the past".
The question though, is when will he make his debut? "I did some tests with the physio today, and I must say that I feel really good. Obviously I need to train, and above all get to know my teammates. However, I'm at the disposition at the coach, and whenever he wants to use me I'm ready; it's his decision".
Waiting to help him get used to his new surroundings is old Lazio teammate, Pavel Nedved. The Czech star has already given him some indications of what to expect at Juve: "Yes, he's told me that everyone works towards winning things I've only been here three days, but I've already had the same impression. This is a great club, and I'm sure that I can do well here".
It's not just in football that the two ex-Lazio players are on the same wavelength; they also share similar impressions of Torino, although Salas admits: "I still haven't had the chance to get to know Turin well, but my wife and I have quickly taken to the city; it seems a perfect place toplay football".
Whilst Salas already knows Nedved,he will instead be starting a relationship from scratch with Marcello Lippi. However, the Juve coach hasalways expressed a high opinion of Salas, something that pleases the striker. "To know that I have a coach here who rates me highly, is a big help. Now I hope to repay that faith in full".
Finally, the new signing commented on yesterday's Champions League draw. "It went well, although obviously the games are all yet to be played. However, it is important that we are ready for when the competition starts, because it's a very stimulating cup that we want to do well in".
