Juventus - Venezia 4-0

Juve won their first match of the season at home against Venezia, by four goals to nil. First Trezeguet opened witha brace, then followed up by Del Piero, who also scored twice, once from a freekick, and once from a header. This allowed Del Piero to reach the ton of goals scored for the bianconeri, his total now standing at 101. Lippi put all of his new signings on the pitch from thestart of the match, with the exception of Salas, who came off the bench 15 minutes from the end, and created Del Piero's second goal. The players seemed very motivated this afternoon, especially Trezeguet, who seemed encouraged by the faith put in him after his fine finish to the season last year. Indeed it was the frenchman whostarted best, scoring twice in the first nine minutes alone. The first goal came when Trezeguet headed home a fine cross from Zambrotta, his header giong in off the post (1-0). Nedved tried some long-range efforts, whilst Buffon struggled to geta touch of the ball, seeing the few Venezia attacks flounder in the face of Thuram and Montero. Zenoni meanwhle got forward to great effect, but in the face of so little opposition, Juve started to take their feet off the accelerator a little. In some attacks, Del Piero was unlucky to see two efforts hit the bar, but in the 44th minute he gave lie to the claim that these things happen in three's, scoring a wonderful freekick, that brought up his 100th goal in a Juve shirt. This lead to celebrations, and great joy for the Juve idol.
The second half started with a Venezia freekick, that Viali sent wide, whilst Nedved conntinued to pepper Venezia's goal with long range efforts. As the game seemed won, the bianconero terraces tried to get the players acknowledgement, especially that of new signing Salas. with fifteen minutes left, the fans got heir wish, as Salas came on in place of Trezeguet, who got richely deserved applause.
