JUVENTUS - INTER 0 - 0

It finished all square (0-0) in the big match at the Delle Alpi between Juventus and Inter. There were 53.000 spectators present, with the Juve fans very colourful. Lippi's side looked to build attacks, whilst Cuper's set out to defend, as was shown by the fact that apart from one shot by Kallon , Buffon had absolutely nothing to do for almost the whole first hour. The bianconeri instead hit the bar through Zambrotta in the first half, as well as going very close through Tacchinardi at the start of the second half, and through Del Piero at the end.

For the first ten minutes the game was played entirely in the midfield, with the ball hardly entering the penalty areas, and no shots being tried. Lippi played the same side that he had played against Porto, with just one exception; the return of Pessotto in the place of Paramatti. The bianconeri, after their success in Europe, were looking to get the league campaign going again. L'Inter, greatly changed from the side that lost the derby, were looking to put last week's disappointing performance behind them.

In the 12th minute, Juve had the first real opportunity of the game. Del Piero and Trezeguet combined to set up Nedved, whose shot finished just wide. Three minutes later Inter responded, as from a corner Cordoba saw his shot deflected over the bar. This led to another corner, from which Di Biagio headed narrowly over. Nedved then tried to suprise Toldo, without success, before Montero tried to repeat his goal on Tuesday in the Champions League, but this time his header was off target.

In the 29th minute, Juve very nearly scored, as from a Del Piero corner, Zambrotta headed against the bar. Counterattacking, Inter were stopped by Thuram who did well to block a dangerous break by Dalmat. Nedved, tried another shot in the 38th minute, but this was saved by Toldo. Then in the final minutes of the first half, Inter tried through Kallon, who fired over the bar from a good position.

During the break, Lippi put on Birindelli in place of Montero, who was still suffering a bit from the blow to the ribs that he took against Porto. Tudor went to the centre of the defence alongside Thuram, whilst Birindelli went to right back. Juve went immediatly onto the attack. Tacchinardi received the ball from a corner, and forced Toldo to turn the ball around the post. Then it was Zambrotta's turn, but his long range shot finished off target. In the 59th minute, Buffon made his first intervention of the game, coming off his line to intercept from Ventola. Cuper then made a change, taking off Guly and introducing Simic, who he put in defence, pushing Javier Zanetti forward onto the right side of midfield, with Dalmat switching to the left.

Juve continued to make most of the running, but with little end product. In the 31st minute Buffon again intercepted from Ventola, who had been freed by Dalmat. That was the striker's last chance, as he was then substituted for Adriano. In the 42nd minute of the half, Lippi's side had a great chance, as Tacchinardi passed to Trezeguet, whose low cross into the six yard box, just eluded a stretching Del Piero .There were than two more substitutions right at the end: Zenoni for Nedved and Farinos for Di Biagio.
