LAZIO - JUVENTUS 1-0

A Fabio Liverani second half goal gifted Lazio with a very important 1-0 victory over Juventus in the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday night, and re-elevated the Biancocelesti to the title of Scudetto contenders.

One of the matches most interesting facades was supposed to be the return of former Lazio midfielder Pavel Nedved to the Stadio Olimpico, however the Czech international disappointed the pre-match expectations by producing a lackluster performance.

The person who instead stole the show was former Perugia creative Fabio Liverani, who five minutes after the start to the second half, took advantage of a bad clearance by Buffon and lobbed the ball over the Juve keeper to put his team ahead.

Juve were never able to equalize the score as the Bianconeri coached by Marcello Lippi once again found it very difficult to create dangerous scoring chances, especially because both Del Piero and Nedved were unable to get into the game.

Actually Lazio were the ones who had the best chance to find the net again, but Crespo wasted his one on one chance with Buffon by shooting on the woodwork of the Juve net in the 56th minute.

The final moments of the match featured an incredible amount of long crosses inside the Lazio box, but both Fernando Couto and skipper Alessandro Nesta dominated on the aerial drives, leaving Trezeguet and substitute striker Amoruso dry of chances.

With the three points, Lazio join Roma, Bologna, and precisely Juventus, who have now lost two matches this season, on 17 points, three behind league leaders Chievo Verona, who host Perugia tomorrow afternoon.
