Juventus-Deportivo Preview
Deportivo La Coruna secured what may prove
a vitally important point when holding Juventus 0-0 at the Stadio Delle Alpi.
It will be the Old Lady who look back on the match with the most regrets after
Alessandro Del Piero had a 72nd minute spot-kick saved spectacularly by Jose
Molina.
The first-half was a cagey affair with both side's feeling each other out. In
the 8th minute, however, Juve almost took the lead when David Trezeguet's
goal-bound effort was tipped over the bar by Molina.
12 minutes later Depor almost took the lead with a long-range effort from Lionel
Scaloni but Gigi Buffon paid back another slice of his hefty transfer fee with a
fine save.
Chances were few and far between in the rest of the half but the Spaniards came
out of the traps quickly in the second period and Diego Tristan tested Buffon
with a close-range effort
Trezeguet then hit the post from close-range but Juve had an even better chance
to go ahead with 20 minute remaining.
Del Piero was fouled in the penalty area by Cesar but the forward's resulting
penalty was saved in dramatic fashion by Molina.
Both side's found it difficult to create chances from then on in and it will
undoubtedly be the Spaniards who will go away the happier knowing a win in the
return clash next week will put them in a strong position to qualify from the
group.
