An incredible mistake by Tarantino ended the dream for both Bologna and their
manager Guidolin (who had promised to walk home from Torino in the eventuality
of a positive result) leaving Juventus alone at the top of the Serie A League
Table (thanks to Lecce's draw with Roma) with only Inter who could overtake them
after tonight's derby against Milan.
Juventus approached this match with the clear intention of making up for their
awful performance against Deportivo on Wednesday: whereas Bologna was prepared
to sit back and wait for the Bianconeri, ready to counter as quickly as
possible.
The black and whites used their wings to perfection, with the Zambrotta-Thuram
duo causing so many problems that Bologna's Argentinean striker Cruz was forced
to give a helping hand, and after having seen a goal dissallowed (and rightly
so, as Trezeguet was off-side on Nedved's shot) Juventus went a goal down thanks
to a great move by Zauli who lobbed Buffon after having protected the ball from
Ferrara's attempt to clear the area. Less than 1 minute later Juventus managed
to draw the match with a Trezeguet header from a beautiful cross by Nedved and
then nothing more till the end of the half.
In the second 45 minutes one realises that the Bianconeri had no intention of
drawing this clash, which would have been an excellent result for the red and
blues, and even if the 3 points did arrive thanks to an own goal, Juventus
created at least 5 clear goal chances that only Pagliuca managed to stop.
In the final minutes manager Lippi took off Del Piero (visibly tired) and put on
Zalayeta causing an uprising from the home crowd: clearly an incomprehensible
and ridiculous kind of behaviour.
