Born in Homberg/Niederrhein (Moers), Germany, in 1957. Gerd Graßhoff is currently (2012) since 2010 Professor for History of Ancient Science at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Also since 2010 Gerd Graßhoff has been director of the Excellence Cluster TOPOI. From 1999 to 2010 he was Professor for Science Theory and Science History at the Universität Bern, as well as Director of the Institut für Philosophie der Universität Bern, Switzerland. His research fields cover the history of ancient science from Babylonian astronomy to Modern Times, methods of scientific discovery, and philosophical models of causal reasoning. His academic degrees include: 1995, Habilitation and Venia legendi in Philosophy, University of Hamburg, Germany.
