Maylee's Story
In September 2009 we rescued a new dog. Lorraine saw a dog in very bad condition being walked, and offered to take the dog off the owner's hands.
The owners demanded $250 from Lorraine to give the dog up so the dog could be cared for at Doggie Day Care.
Following the involvement of the RSPCA, Lorraine finally took possession of the dog, now named Maylee, which means beautiful girl. She is 7 months old, a Staffordshire, and when we got her she had been subject to sustained abuse over a long period of time. She has a fractured hip and leg, no hair on her body, but has a beautiful nature. Jeremy, our Vet, the RSPCA, and the Emergency Animal Hospital described Maylee's case as the worst abuse they have seen.

Update 9.5.10 - All well!
Maylee now lives on the Mornington Peninsula, with a family who love her to bits. Her new best friend is a two year-old little girl. Maylee is inseparable from her, sleeps at the end of her bed, and follows her like a lamb.
Initially she thought that the new furniture was quite tasty, but has now learned the rules.
We have visited the home a number of times, and she has a wonderful, active, and safe life. Her new owners are very familiar with Staffies. They have continued her special diet, and she seems to have no significant handicap from her abusive early life. She will always need to be a 'special' case, as no dog can fully recover from such neglect.
How can we thank the incredibly generous and big-hearted clients and members of the public: Jeremy at Bayside Animal Hospital, Eagle Pack holistic dog food, and the RSPCA. Also special thanks to John for her patient work with Maylee.
