The division 1 squads thought they would try something a little different this year and organise
a players trip, unfortunately the planning didn't quite get underway quick enough and before we
knew it the season was drawing to a close and still no trip organised!
Come together the heads of Wayne, Maz, Kel and Stace on the night of celebrating the new ownership
of the Circuit nightclub by Wayne, Van Styn and Kev, to decide the players trip would actually
end up being a weekend in Wayne's World!
As finals were to start for the girls on the Monday following, the weekend had to be pretty low
key, a Hawks do low key, I don't think so! Friday night saw most of the players venture out to
North Dongara to have a few quiet ones...Charls, Craig and Dean managed to polish off the two
bottles of bourbon that were bought for the entire weekend in one sitting! Van Styn couldn't
quite keep his eyes open the whole night, but we had a good time annoying him anyway, ask him
about the dance his head likes to make when the song "Wheres Your Head At" comes on! Between
Wayne, Kel and Feral Farrell over the weekend 5 bottles of red seemed to disappear from the
collection, and the vodka wasn't liiking in too good a shape Saturday morning either! Big Al
Erickson got his first real taste of how the Hawks crew like to party, after hearing stories
second hand from previous parties at Hawks Headquarters.
Maz, Charls and Wayne decided it would be fun to see Ian drive past the next morning taking
furniture to Perth for Stace and Kirk's new place of residence, hence they never went to bed
until they saw the Hilux and Coates trailer drive by and get a toot from Hebs. Next time you see
Mazza ask her where the sun rises, when suggested they watch the sun rise she was found to be
looking out over the ovean, all well and good...if you live on the EAST COAST Mazza!!
Saturday turned into a pretty lazy day, a nice swim down the beach, breakfast of bacon and eggs
cooked by Deano and Wayne (and we have pictures to prove it!), and then a little kip before we
start back into it for Saturday night. Everyone started off a little slower on the second night,
drinks were a little harder to swallow, but after a couple it was all good. Van Styn once again
had a little trouble keeping his eyes open, but was dragged out to the nightclub by Craig, Kel
and Stace, and for someone that didn't want to go he did a pretty good job, he was the
last to leave! Mazza and Wayne had the house looking spic and span and went off to catch a few
Zs. Kel, Charls and Stace made it back home safely after joking with to do a runner on the taxi
driver and having him lock them in until the full fare was paid. Lighten up...we were only joking!!!
Next morning saw us rise a little later than the day before, then it was clean up, pack and head
home for a little bit of R&R before TRAINING that afternoon. Talk about hard work!
All in all a good time had by all who attended, for those who didn't missed out on the best time!
This year our social calendar was limited to only 1 event throughout the season, that being
the annual Tennis Tournament. As usual a great time was had by all, witht he competition being
held on the Saturday of the Australia Day Long Weekend. All games were played in great spirits
with the Grand Final being played out by Craig Koltasz and Cindy Watters agains Nick Walls and
Stacey Heberle.
This years tournament saw a few new faces appear at the Tarcoola Tennis Courts, the venue of this
years championships, and next year is hoping to be bigger and better again.
Congratulations to Craig and Cindy for their oustanding performance to dominate the Grand Final
match and be named Champions for the 2001/2002 Annual Hawks Basketball Club Tennis Championship.
