A rather bigger garden

There aren't many things you can see near Purrth that you can't see anywhere else in the world (and probably somewhere closer to you). One exception is that you can see some of the most incredible wildflowers you've ever imagined here. If you're interested in botany or gardening and you get the chance to visit Western Australia, time your trip for late August to early October to see all this lot and more.

Here are a few photos taken on a day trip to New Norcia, to the north of Purrth. Some of the shots that don't suck too badly are links to a bigger version - those are between 100 and 150Kb in size.

Orange spiky flowers I think this was a rather rare orange flowered leschenaultia. They're usually blue. Another cat's paw, this time with orangey flowers. Spiky plant with small yellow flowers. More small yellow flowers. Small yellow flowers. The common name for this yellow one is cat's paw. Cream starry flowers arranged in globes Black and white flowers next to each other I'm pretty sure this one is a verticordia I really loved these different white flowers together Blue leschenaultia flowers

Most of the plants above are low-growing, like the ones in front of the trees. Blue leschenaultia growing under gum trees Landscape view with a grass tree (Balga) at right Another landscape view with leschenaultia

I think this might be a pimelia. Closer view of a yellow flower on a spiky-leafed plant. Spider orchid. Red and green flowered kangaroo paw. Red flowered kangaroo paw. Black kangaroo paw.
