
Common Names: Woundwort,
Milfoil, Nose Bleed.
Habitat: Native to Eurasia and naturalized to Nth America and found
in most temperate parts of the world.
Description: A widely varied species. Flowers is terminal and usua lly white to pinkish. The stem is angulaqr and tough. Leaves opposite and dark green about 6-10cm long, clasping the stem at the base, the segments very narrow, downey and feathery in appearance.
Part Used: Herb.
Constituants: Volatile oil, pinenes, borneol, bornyl acetate, camphor, caryophyllene, eugonol, farnesene, myrcene, sabinene, salicylic acid, terpineol, thujone and many others, including the sesquiterpene latones. Most samples ontain high concentrations of azulenes, up to 50%, including chamazulene (= achillea azulene) and guajazulene.
