Diuretic, diaphoretic, cholagogue. Roots an ingredient in Essiac formula, long
history of use as a blood purifier, used in skin diseases. Root decoction used
as a wash. Leaf stems used in Japanese cooking. Leaf tea used for falling hair,
burdock root in strong dose considered antidote to mercury poisoning.
