C. deserticola Rou cong rong fleshy stems
Ancient Chinese prepared this fleshy stem by soaking in wine (mead or spirits)
after which the central fibres are removed. These are then salted and dried
in the sun. Drinking the wine and chewing the fibre was a reported assisting
cases of impotence, infertility (male and female) and premature ejeculation.
Broomrape was claimed to gain its common name as to its tendency to over excite
females in particular. Sometimes imediate relief was said to even be acheived
from use of the broom!
In ancient medicine this plant is revered for its ability to strengthen male
sexual organs and increase vitality. The ancient Chinese almanacs Claimed this
as the 'Magic Medicine of Eternal Youth and Immortality'.
Use as a tea 6 grams, or 2-3 grams of herb 2-3 times daily.
