Horsetail Equisetum arvense (Equisetaceae)
This plant is a relic of the dominant land plants of the mid Paleozoic age about
350 million years ago, and was once quite tall and tree-like. Horsetail has
been used as a tea for cleansing of the urinary tract. Aconitic acid is found
in the plant and it is drunk and used locally to stop both internal and external
bleeding. Its ashes have been used for the treatment of sore mouths. Romans
and American Indians also ate the young shoots.
