Elecampane Inula helenium (Compositae)
Perennial plant with yellow flowers from Europe to E Asia and Siberia. Root
anthelmintic, cholagogue, diuretic, expectorant, stimulant and tonic, the tea
quietens coughing and stimulates digestion and tones the stomach. Used for bronchitis,
urinary, respiratory and menstrual problems. Used externally for skin problems.
Once used in confectionary. Rootstock gathered autumn of second year.
