Slow Speed Animation:
The Citroen 2CV Saloons have an ingenious interconnected suspension system which allows the use of very soft springs while maintaing good vehicle handling & control.
As one wheel rises, the affected corner of the vehicle will tend to rise. The wheel at the opposite end and same side of the car rises in sympathy, reducing fore & aft pitch. To a lesser degree, the opposite side of the vehicle will similarly be affected, to reduce corkscrewing of the whole car. As the wheel moves upward:
This slow speed animation shows the front wheel rising after hitting a bump
- 1) It compresses the front spring
- 2) Simultaneously this compresses the spring pot end buffer (rubber on later models, helical springs on earlier ones)
- 3) This causes the spring pot to move forward
- 4) Which in turn increases the load on the rear spring
- 5) Finally the rear wheel moves downward
