POLLEN FILTER SEALING PROBLEM

Still chasing cabin fume problems.

The success of eliminating Cabin fumes, by new door seals, removing the badly sealing recycle duct & plugging many holes (perhaps reducing the body interior airflow) called for reinstallation of my old pollen filter. This is a PO item & was fitted to all Australian CX's. I removed the temporary tape seal on the filter drain hole in the bottom section of the ventilation air box base & installed the filter on its cradle. This quickly resulted in Cabin fumes again, only apparent after a few miles & when pushing the car.

Immediate big disappointment, followed by examination of the Filter Drain Tube seal, an area I have been always very suspicious of. The old CX2400's dissembled vent box was used for the examination, as its impossible to see inside the assembled one without a borescope or mirrors.

Immediately the problem becomes obvious, the seal abutment on the filter Drain tube is square to its tube and cannot seal on the Vent box base!!! My CX2200, CX2400 & CX2500 ALL have this problem!!!!

The cure:

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

PO. POLLEN FILTER with CRADLE

The welded washer at the bottom of the vent drain tube is supposed to provide a backing for a thin sponge rubber seal to abut on the Vent Tower base.

This washer is square to the tube.

It does not sit squarely on the vent box base.

It thus cannot effect a seal between it & the base unless a very thick sponge rubber is used.
