box3 The launch

Nine months later, and we are now ready to launch.

I decided to play it safe and get some boat insurance first - in case I hit somebody’s pleasure cruiser more than anything else.

And here is where I ran into a slight snag. It seems that most insurance companies are a bit reluctant to insure thirty year old timber vessels without a full survey.

I managed to get somebody to come out, and he went over her with a fine tooth comb. I was pretty relieved when he gave me the all clear.

We launched on the 2nd of January 2006. The launch site was our local boat ramp. Here we see me backing her into the river.

And here she is finally afloat!

We only went out for a short trip this first time, just a bit of a trial run and to test for any major problems like leaks. Fortunately it was quite successful, with no major leaks, but I think I need to refine the bimini setup and the steering.

We got her back in the water later that year, those photos are available on the blog.
