Burdekin Basin Water Supply Planning Study Report August 2002:

Urannah Dam
The study considers the Urannah dam, but rejects it as being unwarranted.
NR&M suggested it would cost $158 million.
It was first investigated 30 years ago, to promote irrigation in the Lower Burdekin.
The Burdekin Falls Dam was selected as the preferred site, as it yielded more benefits.
The proposed dam site is near the Eungella National Park, where there are high habitat values, there is also concern that the storage may encroach on conservation areas. This includes a significant stand of Eucalyptus reveretiana, a tree species of conservation value.

“Scarcely anyone outside northern Queensland has heard of the Urannah Valley. But then to be unheard of is in the nature of pristine wilderness. How many Australians had heard of the Franklin before we were called upon to save it?”
