Exhibitions

Currently "The Fitzgibbon Dynasty" continues to be an extremely popular exhibit at the Archive’s Wantirna premises. This exhibition was originally to run until the end of May,2008, however has now been extended until 31st October, 2008

 

"Jazz Spans the Decades" - A touring exhibition from the Victorian Jazz Archive alongside fascinating memorabilia from key jazz icons with a connection to Boroondara was held at the Town Hall Gallery, Hawthorn Town Hall from 6th February, 2008 to 23rd February, 2008.

 

" The New Melbourne Jazz Band" will be the next feature exhibition at the Archive’s Wantirna premises and will run from November,2008.

Other Significant Events

The Archive has, with the financial assistance of the Victorian Government, undergone a Preservation Audit by a qualified professional auditor.

The Archive is also currently undergoing a "Significance Assessment" funded by the National Library of Australia.

This assessment is being conducted by Carolyn Laffan, Project Co-ordinator with the Performing Arts Museum.

 

Visitors to the Archive

The VJA continues to be a significant place of interest with visitors and musicians exceeding 1,700 during the 2007 calendar year. Exhibitions, including the "VJA’s Making of an Archive" and "The Fitzgibbon Dynasty" have provided visitors with enjoyable guided tours of the Archive, followed by light refreshments in the popular Waterfront Café.

Musicians from the Knox Jazz Band and the Knox Transition Big Band, together with the Junior and Senior Jazz Improvisation Workshops have continued to use the Archive premises as a rehearsal venue.

 

Volunteers Attendance

During the 2007 calendar year over 48 volunteers devoted in excess of 13,000 hours of their time to the Archive, continuing the excellent and demanding performance required to maintain all facets of the Archive including Cataloguing, Preservation, Membership and Finances.
