Series 2

In this series I returned to the line-cartooning style. I use visual images to understand life, and these images just come to me as a way of explaining a moment or conversation, or at times a horrific diet that I am trying to follow!

This print was made in response to an exhibition theme, Bridging. I was thinking of a stoic friend of mine, who has taught me that it is possible to build a bridge over even the most troubled waters. Although, as my brother would say, “How hard could it be!” Etching 2009 I am sure that a few girls out there can relate to this – trying to be healthy, and feeling like you are giving up everything you love. Etching 2009 My mum is a staunch believer in the power of positive thoughts. I am not sure if this is a picture for her, or for me – the person who continual needs to be beaten over the head with this sound piece of advice. Etching 2009 This image was made in response to a chaotic life. Often I feel as though we are just balancing on a precarious pile of things that we have painstakingly built up. Etching 2009 Sometimes I feel as though life is getting away from me – like I need to keep running in order to keep up. This image came to me during one of these runs. Etching 2009 I have always been in awe of mums. They seem to be able to solve any magnitude of problem with a Tardis like diaper bag – reminiscent of a super hero! Etching 2009 A special time between girl friends is when someone new comes into their life. Recently a friend found new love with a man she nicknamed Mr. Darcy. It was precious and we all rallied to protect that wonderful feeling. Etching 2009 Is there any better feeling than sitting by the water, relaxing in the sun? I wish there were more moments like this. This print helps me to remember them. Etching 2009 Sometimes we have to throw caution to the wind, and do what we think is right – even if those around us think that we are a little bit mad! Etching 2009 This image was made at the same time as the previous image, Just Balancing. Sometimes it seems that life is very restrictive, and we are trapped in a world of our own making.
