A Little Background.Michelle

Jam is the creation of husband and wife team, Tim and Michelle Gray. The idea for Jam came about when Michelle observed her own children being entertained and educated as they watched the quality Australian TV groups for kids. Inspired by the positive impact that groups such as these have on children, Michelle wondered about using such a medium to teach kids about Jesus.

So, she began to write!

Michelle’s background is in Primary Music Education and coupled with the fact she had 2 boys under the age of three - she was in familiar territory. Thus, songs such as ‘Jump and Shout’ and ‘Me- God Made Me’ were written and over time, the rest of the songs featured on the debut CD and DVD were completed. Michelle’s aim was to use the contemporary style of the secular groups to help bring Children’s Ministry into the 21st Century.

Michelle is the lead singer in the show while husband Tim (who is also a trained music teacher and has arranged and recorded all the music for the songs) plays the character of animal ‘expert’ and puppeteer, Dr Doolots. The desire to see not only his own but many other children follow Jesus coupled with a lifelong love of performing ensured his support of Michelle’s vision.

Dr Doolots and FriendsJam was launched at the 2002 Australian Gospel Music Festival. This was followed by the release of Jam’s first CD (2003) and video (2005). Jam was then the two performers featured on the DVD, Michelle and Halina with Tim assuming the role of animal ‘expert’, Dr Doolots (pictured here with some of his friends from the Jam Zoo).

A few years ago, Halina decided to move on to other pursuits and so now Jam is very much a family affair as they now travel all over Australia performing their show as a family. Even the two boys are in the show - and they love it just as much as the kids they perform to!

Tim and Michelle are now working on the next bunch of songs for more CDs and DVDs. They will be a combination of Praise and Worship, Christmas and teaching songs. Their aim is to write lyrics that are easy for kids to understand without watering down the concept of worshipping God.

Tim and Michelle were also recently asked to help with the Music of their Church’s Creative Department (They attend Impact Christian Centre in Toowoomba, QLD.)

Their song ‘He’s Good’ won the award for Best Gospel Children’s Song for the Australian Gospel Music Association’s 2006 Awards.

The end of 2009 also saw the completion of Jam’s 2nd CD “Stronger, Deeper, Cooler, Smarter”. The title and concept inspired by Luke2:52 which talks about how Jesus grew.
