SMOKE FREE WA BROOKTON MUSIC MIX 2006

3rd 4th & 5th November - Enjoy a broad range of music styles in a pleasant location

Brookton is a picturesque country town one hour drive from the metro area. It has a rich history, friendly locals and is ideal for a healthy, fun weekend break. The event runs from 8 pm Friday to 5.30 pm Sunday.

The WA Folk Federation with the support of Healthway presents a weekend of variety in music, dance and verse. Entertainers from the country and city combine in 20 hours of real variety (28 groups -110 performers). Experience the great Western Australian talent available with a friendly gathering that brings out the best in a great MIX.

Special Guest is Raelene Bruinsma from Melbourne. A singer/songwriter, "jazz and blues tinged folk", with lovely voice, guitar, flute and percussion. The following are just some of the performers of each talent packed event:

Commencing Friday evening Brookton's traditional country hotels welcome a variety of acts designed to encourage audience participation. Cobwebs - A Quartet of Australian humour in song. Country Folk - Traditional Australian Folk duo from Mt Barker. Dillip n the Davs - Fresh funky Freo acoustic roots/contemporary Folk. Salvation Jane - Bunbury duo of rich vocals & passionate delivery. Craig Sinclair - Soulful slide guitar contemporary folk-blues. DJangle - Original Blues/Roots music duo. Banjo, Slide Guitar, Requinto guitar, Harmonica and Stomp Box. Two Pints - Paddy Connolly & Colin Smiley take over the Club Hotel (as they do) to run an open mic session with music, verse, dance or other acts.

On Saturday morning the restored Old Railway Station is the stage for group 'Pat Softly' and a humorous look at WA Railways in song, verse/stories. A shearing shed on the edge of town provides a genuine setting for 'Poets of the Bush' including raconteur Roger Montgomery. Open air events include a local fete, juggling acts, Souleido French Dance Group and catchy originals from Mike and Leslie. Enjoy a 'Country Morning Tea' and other local foods. The Bedford Arms and Club hotels also provide a range of good food with free entertainment at meal times over the weekend.

Saturday afternoon - The Town Hall's Showcase Concert features Brookton Choral Society promising even more hilarious songs and costuming than last year. The talented line up includes Jenny Donovan, Melalueca Road, Sound Travels - High energy African Drumming & Percussion group and Working Voices - Acapella choral harmony at its best. Winners of the Songwriting contest will also be announced.

The evening Big Mix concert includes more humour from Telescopic Roger, the great harmonies of Summerhouse, Dave & Liz Rivett with Peter Harper with exciting sound of original and well known tunes and French Connexion - A trio that will have you singing in French.

Sunday morning has an inspiring Gospel Concert in 110 year old St Mark's. HarmonyUs are renowned for their joyful, exuberant harmonies with audience participation and Carmel, John & Friends have songs of inspiration and hope old and new.

Sunday afternoon concert includes Pee Chee Davs creating funky music for the whole family, Jane Laws with thought provoking lyrics and strong melodies and Sound Travels - High energy African Drumming & Percussion group. Original Australiana with Margaret and Geoff Morgan. The weekend concludes with a Bush Dance by 'The Pioneers'. And much more all weekend.
