Card Making/Rubber Stamping.

A hand made card means so much more than a shop purchased card. People really appreciate the effort and love that goes into a card made especially for them. Of all the paper crafts around, card making is where my heart lies. When I say a card, it can be a simple stamped card that takes me 10 minutes, or a miniature book that I have spent a whole weekend on. I find card making is only limited by my imagination, (and time).

There are no rules in card making, so I can let my imagination run free. Some of the tools I enjoy using in card making are wood mounted stamps and a range of ink pads. I find colouring in with my Tombow markers very relaxing. I think us card makers have a lot to thank scrapbookers for, as we have the most beautiful range of printed papers available for us to use in our card making, especially when combined with soft ribbons and charms or other embellishments.

I run classes regularly at Stamps & Stuff, incorporating many different techniques and styles. So whether you would like to try stamping, paper tole, working with printed paper, or making a shaker card filled with hundred and thousands, there is sure to be a class to interest you. No experience is needed to attend a our classes and remember, beginners are our specialty, so you will always be made to feel welcome.

Classes are also a great way to get to try out new products. Use of all tools and all materials needed, are included in the cost of our classes. So you do not need to bring anything but yourself. There are no hidden surprises or unexpected expenses.

Best Tips for Card Making.

Card.
The quality and weight of the card you choose is very important. There are many different coloured and textured cards on the market, a good average weight is around 220-250gms. I like to feel the card, this way you can tell if it is thick enough to stand up as a finished card.

Bone Scorer
For a professional finish a neat crisp fold is needed. I like to use a bone scorer. It will give you a clean fold, for a quality finish.

Double Sided Tape.
I like to adhere my cards together with an acid free double sided tape called Nichiban Super Tape. It is thin, strong and will adhere your card together without ripples or buckling that can often occur with glue. Nichiban Super Tape also has other applications, it is heat resistant so you can emboss it, add glitter, or use it when scrapbooking. There are other double sided tapes tapes on the market, so always ask for “Nichiban”

Paper Trimmer
A quality paper trimmer will allow you to cut and trim your card to the desired size with easy and crisp straight lines. I like to use the Fiskars 12” personal paper trimmer. It is light and compact, has its own measuring ruler, and is very easy to use.

Quality finishes.
I always think that if you are going to go to the effort to hand make a card, you want it to look good. Always buy the best quality card and embellishments, ribbons etc. that you can afford. Never skimp when layering together, run the super tape all the way around the card to be layered. This keeps your card adhered flat. Make use of your tools to not only make your job easier, but to give a professional finish. Always use a bone scorer when folding card, and your paper trimmer for cutting straight lines
