About Me
[ about me ]

Heya - My real name is Michael and if you don't know me, you don't need to know my last name! ;) I first started using the name Mad Hatter on my artwork in 1992, and have used it as my online nick name since 1996 when I first got on the net. I live in the suburbs of Perth (the most isolated city in the world apparently?), Western Australia. The time zone here in WA is Australian Western Standard Time (AWST or GMT + 8 hours) and we don't have daylight savings.

I like listening to electronic music and producing my own using my computer (although I don't find much time for that these days). Check out my music page for more info as well as some music I've made. I also have an interest in drawing and computer graphics. Have a look at my art page for some of my artwork. I like to think of myself as creative and I find that I always need some form of outlet for it, whether it be something like drawing, making music, computer graphics, web design or even computer programming.

My favourite movie genre is horror, but I'm known to also enjoy sci-fi's and thrillers as well as the occasional action or martial arts movie. Some of my favourites movies are Aliens (Alien Resurrecton wasn't too bad either), Pi, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, The Matrix, Fight Club, Run Lola Run, Event Horizon, John Carpenter's The Thing, Evil Dead trilogy (Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn is my favourite), Hellbound: Hellraiser II, A Nightmare On Elm Street series, In The Mouth Of Madness, Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas, Naked Lunch, Predator (Predator 2 was good too, but the original was the best), Terminator 2: Judgement Day (The original Terminator is a classic also), Lock Stock And 2 Smoking Barrels, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Abyss, Jacky Chan films (or Chow Yun Fat films, or films directed by John Woo), and many more which I know I love but have forgotten to mention here! I also love Japanese animation like Akira, Spriggan, Ninja Scroll, Ghost In The Shell, Neon Genesis, Battle Angel Alita, etc.

Some of my other interests include computers, programming (go here for a good introduction on what programming actually is, as well as a section on "Programming as an Addiction"... could explain a lot actually!), and the Internet. I'm known to be a bit of a hacker at times in an effort to satiate my thirst for information and knowledge. And if this still isn't clear for some people, a hacker is not a computer criminal - a computer criminal is someone who uses hacking skills and techniques to commit crimes! If you think I sound like a bit of a geek, well then maybe you're right, but one day I plan to be a rich geek! :p~ For the women out there, here's something you should read about nerds & geeks! ;)

On finishing, here are a few of my favourite quotes to ponder over...

"People who know little are usually great talkers, while men who know much say little."
- Jean-Jacques Rousseau

"I do not consider it an insult, but rather a compliment to be called an agnostic. I do not pretend to know where many ignorant men are sure -- that is all that agnosticism means."
- Clarence Darrow, Scopes trial, 1925

"Judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgment."
- Simon Bolivar

"The prestige of the government has undoubtedly been lowered considerably by the prohibition laws. Nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced."
- Albert Einstein, physicist, philosopher, Nobel Laureate (1879-1955)

"Sanity is a madness put to good uses."
- George Santayana, Spanish-American philosopher (1863-1952)

"If you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you."
- Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900)

"Each generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one that comes after it."
- George Orwell, author (1903-1950)
