Central Australia

In May/June 2001, we went with friends in a convoy of 4-wheel drive vehicles to Central Australia.
It took a week to drive from Perth to Alice Springs, where our "safari" began.
From Alice Springs we travelled south along the abandoned Old Ghan railway line on the western edge of the Simpson Desert, around the lower edge of Lake Eyre and north to Birdsville up the Birdsville Track.
We returned to Alice Springs via far western Queensland and the East MacDonald Ranges.

Note : the colours of Central Australia are famously dramatic - if you have a good monitor you will see the deep reds and blues.
