May 2004 |

Celebrating the departure of her pups
in April 2003.
You can see recent photos of them here |
Thika has inherited the energy
of her father Taka , the good humour of her grandfather Harry
and the good sense and sweet nature of her great-grandmother
Mzuri.

Thika spends most of her time with the ancient
Mzuri, and it is wonderful
to see the knowledge handed down across the generations :

Zu has taught Thika patience..
|

...the power of bargaining...
|

...and
to live with disappointment. |

But most of all, |

the comfort of |

close companionship. |
All Ridgebacks are world-class
sleepers and Thika is no exception.

One of Thika's oddest passions is
for unripe fruit ( stones and all ! ).
She likes it so green that it is often months away from falling
naturally, and she has to leap into the branches to get it.
Here she is attacking a loquat
tree ...

... and enjoying the results

As a puppy, we nicknamed her "Teacup",
because she was so pretty and full of energy !
She certainly kept her ageing relatives
on their toes - Mzuri in particular
seemed to enjoy reliving her youth ( and passing on lots of bad
habits ).

After spending her puppyhood
with these old dogs,
she was thrilled to get a playmate of her own age - Mukela.
