A View From Mount Glorious
I drove to the top of Mount Glorious, one Sunday for something to do,
and I looked at the landmarks around me, admiring the breathtaking view.
The Hornibrook Highway to Redcliffe, with it’s bridge spanning such a long way.
The Gateway Bridge and the river, and ships anchored in Moreton Bay.
North Stradbroke was clear in the distance, Moreton Island had gleaming white sand.
Tangalooma resort on the island, looked close to the busy mainland.
I gazed at the beauty around me, on this typical warm summers day,
and in the distance I saw Bribie Island, and the waters of Deception Bay.
In the foreground I spotted the Airport ,where planes could be seen up above
and,the Samford Valley below me, was a picture so easy to love.
To the north I could see toward Nambour, with mountains rugged and tall,
the sight of Mount Tibrogargon, made others around it look small.
Out to the Western horizon, where slowly I started to scan,
looking out now toward Ipswich to Esk and the Wivenhoe Dam.
Over the haze of the ranges, and up to the great Darling Downs
I could picture Toowoomba and District, surrounded by quaint country towns.
Scanning around towards Brisbane, Mount Cootha came first into sight
and then came the view of the City, and I wished I was up here at night.
Maybe the next time I venture, next time I need something to do,
I'll drive to the top of Mount Glorious, and take in the breath taking view.
